I have some Acme bullets coming this week. According to some things I've read coated bullets prefer a powder that isn't on the upper scale of fast and hot. Is that correct? If so, what happens when using a fast powder?
I'll be using these for plinking and no required PF.
What powder should I start with (assuming I can find load data for it)? I've got
titegroup
bullseye
silhouette
autocomp
231
wsf
pistol power
unique
Thanks!

Any of those could be used and as you will soon see everyone will have an opinion on what they prefer. I use Bullseye and Unique but normally for .45 acp and .38 spl/.357 mag.
The past couple years Power Pistol has been my go to powder for 9mm but I'm loading 115 gr. jacketed bullets. I'm sure there's data though for your coated bullets as well. Power Pistol is a bit on the warm side though.

Alliant Sport Pistol has load data for Coates bullets. It?s a good medium burn rate 9mm powder. I?ve gone through about 4 lbs and have really like it. Burns really clean.

Nope. That is not correct.
Some older moly coatings would be damaged if the powder was too hot, and the internet never forgets. ;)
In related news, it no longer destroys your gun if you get home and don't clean it right away. ;)

I've used most of the powders on your list. I use Bullseye with Acme bullets and like it a lot. It' cheap. It is clean enough. It meters well. It's fluffy enough to avoid double charges is you are paying attention. I think you will find the charge needed to get a velocity with an Acme bullet will be lower than the charges on the Alliant load data. Also note that the load data says it was shot from a 4" gun.

Good to know. Thanks - never know what you can believe when you don't know.....
Well, gotta go outside now. Big foot is supposed to be walking around tonight and I don't wanna miss seeing him.

I have always used Bullseye for 45acp and when I started loading 9mm for my CZ PCR Bullseye worked out very well.
