28 Sep. Happy Czech Statehood Day (also known as St. Wenceslas Day to commemorate the assassination of the duke of Bohemia). One month to the centennial of the First Czechoslovak Republic on 28 Oct. With this upcoming event in mind, I thought about doing something ?Czech? while having a surplus BD refinished at CGW earlier in the year.
The grips on the Operation Anthropoid commemorative edition had me thinking....if you look closely, there?s a stylized Czech flag engraved on each panel. Not exactly something that I thought could readily be replicated. Then I started to notice photos of a Czech military subdued patch and actually saw someone with it on a backpack in the metro.
It came together over a Pilsner at the local pub [emoji3].... why not have that patch laser engraved on a CZ pistol? After thinking of where on the pistol, the flat surface on the muzzle of the slide appears to have been designed for this purpose! The right side would have the reversed flag to show forward motion.
Off went a 1999 BD to CGW for transformation...Pro-Package, EZ-D/fiber optic sights, master blued slide and hard chrome frame. While this BD was in the shop, I came across another BD from 1997, the first year of production, with an interesting setup (no, that?s not a reverse image if you know what I mean [emoji44]). I did a mix-and-match of the two BDs in the last photo to show it.
