New to CZ and I'm perplexed
« on: November 26, 2018, 12:46:10 AM »
Hello, I'm new here and this is my first post.

As a bit of a back up, I currently own a 75B Omega w/ manual safety. Also a P10c is on the way. My 75B was my first centerfire gun. I just got into this silliness 3 years ago. And I've gone a bit nuts.

I've been very happy with my CZ except I've learned that I'm more of a decocker fan. My first couple of guns had to have safeties (live and learn). I had decided that I would pick up a 75BD and get some trigger work done to it. Yep that would work out fine.

That was until some nice gentleman shooting at the bay next to me this weekend let me run a few rounds though his Accu Shadow and his TSO. I don't like this man any more ;D Wow is all I can say they both or the nicest guns I've ever fired. When I was done shooting I stopped in the retail shop attached to the range and fondled a Shadow II. It too was mighty nice. I can't tell you pro and cons between because I did not get a chance to shot the S II .

I can swing the SII the Accu Shadow is a bit more to swallow. I do want a SA/DA mostly because of the decocker. remember that is what led me down this rabbit hole.

Should I just say screw the decocker and get the SII ?  OR  Go with my original plan and get a 75BD and get work done to it. How close can I get to a Accu or SII? The only thing I don't  like about the 75 bd is it has no front and rear serrations.  Then I saw the SP01 Tactical , has a decocker and front and rear serrations. It also has the front rail that is more in line with the Accu and the SII I was looking in to. How far can one take the SP01? By now I'm sure you all see were I'm heading. Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks in advance for help me out
Dean

Get the shadow 2 if you can?t swallow the price of the TSO. You won?t regret it at all.

I have a shadow 2 I Shooting for USPSA Production division, TSO for limited and czechmate for open division and I had been spoiled by the accuracy and smoothness of these pistols. Even my wife likes shooting the TSO and czechmate because of the ergonomics and balance.

The shadow 2 can be shot in competition out of the box. It?s also very easy to upgrade if you desire to do so. Such is the case 99% of the time anyway. Upgrade parts are readily available through CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works. They also do custom work if you want to send your stock gun to them for upgrades.

So I say, go for it.

Welcome to the forum!

Am I reading that you are NOT comfotable manually decocking the hammer?  Practice with an unloaded gun excercising all of the safety rules.  Block the hammer with your thumb.  Get the the finger off the trigger just after the hammer is free and the firing pin block (if so equipped, "B" versions) will be anther safety margin should you slip.

Other than the SAO versions, the safety version CZs can still operate Double Action first shot by manually decocking the hammer.  This is what I do for my carry guns, preferring the longer stiffer DA first shot for self defense prep.

The sweetest CZ shooters for the range tend not to have decockers or firing pin blocks.  That said, you can still make a sweet shooter out of a decocker version.

I have 5 CZs including a TSO and an CZC Accu Shadow Lite.  Only one, a PCR, is a Decocker and I had it built for me by CGW.  I also have a bunch of 1911s so I'm totally comfortable with using a thumb safety.  I don't have a Shadow 2, but they are fine pistols and I'd take one any day over a 75D, regardless of how much after market work you have done on it.  If this is a range gun, just how often would you decock it on a live round anyway???  I almost never engage the safety on any of my pistols, whether a CZ or a 1911, when I am shooting at the range.  I usually go straight from a locked back slide with a full magazine inserted to locked slide on an empty magazine after firing all the rounds.  If I do stop to check a target, etc. before a mag is empty, I just engage the safety and lay the gun on the bench and never decock it.

If you are going to carry the pistol, then the 75D would probably be a better choice.  Not because of the Decocker feature but the difference in weight and concealability between the 75D and a Shadow 2.  But for the range or competition, the Shadow 2 is the way to go between those two.

The primary difference between a Shadow variant and an SP01 Tactical (or other decocker) is the lack of a firing pin block on the shadows.  The lack of the firing pin block gives the shadows a shorter reset.  Barring that, the SP01 Tactical can be tuned to match all other aspects of the trigger pull and accuracy.

Both CGW and CZC can tune any decocker into a match grade trigger and it will be very competitive.  They also sell parts so that you can do it yourself.

When you start talking Shadow 2 and TSO those guns have ergonomic enhancements that your not going to get on the standard 75 series variant.  They have a longer sight radius, different grip angles, etc... that give you a slight advantage (if you prefer the updated grip angle).  The TSO is a dedicated comp gun and it has a very short crisp trigger that can only be matched with a single action only conversion on a shadow variant.

I'm a big fan of CZ decockers (have many) but I compete with my TSO in limited Major.  If I ever move back to production, I would run my SP01 Tactical again as it has a very nice DA/SA trigger.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks to everyone for their sage advice. I was givin a lot to chew on. So what I did the only thing any sane man would/could/should do. I scratched both itches. I picked up a P-01 with standard trigger and a decocker and on Friday I?ll put a S2 bk/bl on layaway. That will keep me happy for a while.

Thanks again

If you would ask my wife she would tell you that you made a wise decision.
Get them both now, be happy, then you wont be wishing you did something different all the time, until you finaly did it anyway.

I still say Nicely Played!!!
