If you look in from the bottom of magazine, at the inner base of the 'cupped' section there is a small circular button/hole. Take a punch and depress that button in, and that will allow you to slide the base rearward off the metal body. That button secures the inner spring plate against the base. When you reinstall, the button should click back into its hole after you slide it back on.
