Problem with feed ramp
« on: December 03, 2018, 03:20:47 PM »
looking for some information. I just bought a used 97B. I tried two types of ammo my first trip to the range - Remington FMJ RN and Hornaday Home Defense Jacketed Hollow Point. I first tried the hollow point ammo and the rounds wouldn't go into battery. I pulled back the slide and noticed the round was hung up at the bottom of the feed ramp. I dropped the mag thinking there was an issued with my ammo and tried a second time the same thing happened. Then I loaded the round nose ammo and the same issue took place.

Has any one else had any feed ramp issues or can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

How old is the gun? The early 97?s had a different feed ramp than the newer ones. They redesigned them(not sure of the exact year)for the problems you are having. In the photo below the redesigned feed ramp is on the left old on the right.

Just how old is it?  Early 97's had a short feed ramp that caused exactly the same problem you're having.  I believe they changed it in 2014, but I'm not sure.  Manuf. date should be a 2 digit number just in front of the chamber cutout on the slide.  You can get a replacement barrel with the longer ramp, but it would still need to be fitted to your gun.  If it's just a range toy, the better (cheaper) option might just be find ammo that feeds reliably.  Good luck.

The barrel was redesigned in 2012 and the magazines were also upgraded for reliability at that time.

I had that same issue as well. I thought it was because of the feed ramp, but I had the updated ramp. I finally took it to a gunsmith, and they saw that my slide stop lever extended a little too far and was engaging the round. They shaved a bit off, and I haven?t had an issue since then. That was about 2 years ago and thousands of rounds later.

A year or so ago I called CZ-USA and asked about the replacement barrel and frame work. I was told I had to buy the barrel but the frame work would be no charge. I have a 1998 model, but have not had any problems shooting ball ammo. It's been so long since I've shot it though I forget what brand I used or if it was generic reloads of mine.
