That's my suspicion whenever I see a pistol for sale with about 10 mags and competition style doodads.

Because high mileage guns are easier to pass off as low mileage than old cars with "adjustable odometers".
I take very good care of my guns so if I didn't tell you beforehand you would never know my CZ P-07 has 12,000 rounds down the pipe.

I bought a CZ Tactical Sport .40 a year or two back that had several thousand rounds through it.  I don't remember the exact round count (don't pay attention to that stuff, it will vary from gun to gun if you're looking at it as an indicator of when something will break) but it seems it was well past 10,000 rounds.

A competition pistol.  Shot enough that the barrel broke in half right at the end of the chamber where the rifling starts.  I kind of wish the seller had included the broken barrel parts with the rest of the stuff I got (slide, frame, extra hammer/trigger/safeties/magazines/sights, recoils springs, etc., etc., etc.)  Installed a new barrel in it and shot it a few times.  Awfully big/heavy and a scary light trigger.  Range gun only.

I don't think most people count rounds through a gun.

I don't think most people shoot them very much.

I don't think most people take good care of them and the abuse you see on the outside is due more to poor carry/maintenance practices than lots of rounds and hard use making holes in things.

When you see people (on the internet) asking about whether or not they should wipe the metal down with an oily cloth, or why their pistol starts to fail after a few thousand rounds with no cleaning/lubricating, or what ammo is the most accurate in their model/caliber gun you know most people don't know as much as they should about the gun they've bought/used.  They're reading reviews on the internet and trying to buy accuracy, or dependability/reliability instead of working with themselves and their firearms to become more proficient.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Any weapon that I actually like to shoot - will have many thousands of rounds through it.  Any weapon in my collection that is ever put up for sale.... will be by somebody else, either stolen from me, or at my estate sale.  I?ll never sell another weapon again ever.

But I?m doubly sure whoever does sell my stuff - will advertise it as having a low round count!

Hiya benchmark and thanks for the thread, and good to know I have company in my boredom. I believe shots fired, gently used, like new in the box, previously owned, little holster wear gives it character etc. Are all part and parcel for the used car salesperson living in all of us. And buying a new pistol is always a decision associated with more emotion than compared to the lot of 50 military surplus pieces that caught our eye. Round counts are to miles just as bald tires and body work can be compared to condition of bluing and paint nicks. Thats why we ask for pics. And posting a new model of the platform isn't acceptable. Consider that shots fired may not even be an issue once one finds that mint 30yr old Colt Python or Sig p210 at a garage sale, are you gonna be the one that tells the seller you'd rather pay a fair market price of 3000,or the 400 they were hoping to get ??   Ok off to you tube to see what kinda click bait "Shots Fired" brings up there. Be well.

I agree with who ever said its because most people don't shoot their guns much.
It takes more time and a lot more money then most people are willing to put up to shoot 1000 rounds.

Most average gun owner Joe's are afraid to pull the trigger too often because a round is .20 or more.
I have a gun with over 20K rounds through it and if you saw it you would swear it is pretty new. If I ever were to sell a gun it would only be because I didn't enjoy shooting it for one reason or another and if I don't enjoy it after 5 boxes of shells I will never enjoy it. So my add would be:
For sale:
Low round count like new hand gun
Trigger is gritty and mags don't fall out cleanly.
Sights are off, and the slide to frame fit is a tad on the loose side
Only selling this gem to make room for a new gun.

I have recorded every round through each of my CZs in a book. If I ever sold one the records would come with it.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I shoot every week and I keep a range log, including date, time, ammo used and round count for each pistol.  I usually bring 3-4 pieces.  That's just me though.  :D

I think for the vast majority of guns you see for sale, the low round count is true. So many people buy guns because someone or something caused temporary interest. When they experience the ?unpleasantness? of the recoil, the cost of ammo, and the chore of going to the range, its not the cool shiny new thing anymore. As stated previously, used guns in rough condition are due to poor maintainance / storage and not high round count. I know someone who I work with who owns firearms, but is not a ?shooter?. He once told me he would never buy a used gun. Never offered a good reason as to why this was. I, on the other hand, am most happy to acquire all of the lightly used hardware that is available.
