Mill P01 slide over rear sight, or in front?
« on: July 31, 2023, 01:36:28 PM »
I want to get a P01 milled for a Holosun 507k.  The holosun has a rear sight built in, so I am hoping to put the optic as far back as possible, so it interferes the least with the holster and belt line.

But a lot of folks seem to put the optic in front of the rear sight. Why do they do this, when the Holosun has a sight built in?  Are there other advantages I'm not thinking of?

It's personal preference.  For your build I see no reason to have a dedicated rear sight.
CZ Shadow 2 OR  - DPP, Armanov Grips, Toni Frame Weight + Thumb Rest
CZ P-10 C - CZC OR Upper, Romeo1Pro
Volquartsen Black Mamba 6" - Romeo1Pro, Ruger Target Grips
Glock 20 Gen 4 - Lone Wolf Threaded Barrel + Comp

Thanks man.

I also had some folks on another forum say it helps keep the optic cleaner by being back further, so that's a plus.  It's what I'll go with.

Your chosen optic has a sight built into it?  Will your pistol always have that same, or a similar optic?

Never had a red dot get dirty enough to be an issue in a range session.  I suppose, if one did, a quick wipe of my t-shirt would fix that.  Don't expect a non-range use to use enough rounds to matter either.

Some people practice with the (use of the front sight post and the optic) to shoot without a rear sight or even the optic being on or functioning.

Hope it works out for you.  Practice not using the dot once you get it back.  Just like you should if it had the rear sight.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
