Picatinny Rail Rear Mount
« on: April 08, 2019, 11:32:52 PM »
I'm looking to add an optic to my VZ58 and considering some of the mounting options. I've read threads discussing both upper hand guard and side mounts but I am curious if anyone has any experience with this rear mount or similar? My VZ came with the black polymer furniture and I recently replaced it with the beaver barf set which I would like to keep. Would that stock work well with this rear mount? I am trying to avoid a chin weld to use an optic on a side mount and don't have any experience with forward mounted optics . What are some of the other pros and cons of this mount compared to the other possibilities?  This particular mount also happens to be just slightly more expensive than the side mount and much less expensive than the receiver cover I have seen on Zahal. Any advice is appreciated.

It looks good to me.  As long as when you reassemble the two sections after cleaning you get a return to zero.  Clicking on the link and looking at the other pictures it looks as though the rear pattern would match up with the factory stock.

Did you ever get this? Does it work well? Inquiring minds have been considering a setup using this and a TA44...if it will ship to the U.S.

I just looked the thread up again so I can order it since I misplaced the link. When it comes in I'll post some pics and a review. An ACOG would be nice but going for an Aimpoint Pro is about as much as I'm willing to spend. I'm also looking at some of the compact prism scopes which honestly are more appealing. Shame that I won't be able to get a LPVO to work.

I love LPVOs at one point I had 3 of em, 2 1-8 vortex strike eagles and a 1-8 primary arms with griffin ACSS, sold 1 of the strike eagles. I keep the PA on my AUG and the other on a 308 AK.  For the VZ 58 I think a LPVO might detract from one of its best qualities, light weigh part of why I was looking at tge TA44, about 8oz with mount, the PA 1x cyclops prism is about 10oz, the higher fixed magnification options are about 1lb but are very rugged/durable but more weight than I wanted to add to my gun

LPVO also tend to get dinged by ejecting cases on the VZ58 w/o a deflector.
