Picked Up New P07 *UPDATED RANGE REPORT*
« on: July 28, 2019, 12:23:48 PM »
Hello all,

I am not new to CZ having owned a 75B / .40 some years back and a 550 Premium in .270 for my hunting rifle, but I recently started the search for a DA/SA pistol to replace the G19.

The two finalists were the Beretta PX4 Compact and the CZ P07. After a bit of study I came home with a new P07.  I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet, maybe tomorrow if time allows, but I checked it over and it looks well put together with no obvious issues and dutifully read over the owner's manual.  In doing this I discovered they didn't include assembly or function check procedures, which I found surprising.  I also noticed the RSA has a metal guide and black spring where some of the photos and vids I saw mentioned plastic and a blue spring...any info on that?

My plan is to give it a good test fire and if all goes well, the factory sights will have to go.  At my age, I need my sights to be a bit more open, so I will be looking for some with a wider notch and high visibility front.  Plus, I'll be needing a few extra magazines to round out the package.

So any recommendations on sights and mags will be appreciated.

Looks like Ameriglo doesn't have any...nor Trijicon in their HD XR's.

How do the Dawson's carry?  Any sharp spots?

Blueknight,
Very smart choice. The CZ P-07/09's are among the most reliable, durable, ergonomic, and accurate DA/SA's at any price. And an incredible bargain too!

I'm surprised you didn't get the Factory function-test target and paperwork in the case pocket. Did you get the Omega parts in a small plastic bag to convert from decocker to manual safety (should you chose)? I wonder if your FFL removed them from the display case, and forgot to provide them??

If you don't already know them....Gregcotellc.com is an excellent resource for magazines. The P-10C (original) mags are less $ and will retrofit the P-07, but the US version of P-10c will not. Greg Cote will know the right ones.

As far as sights, many on the Forum have said they like the Fision. For my 'ol eyes, I've gone all-in on red dots; and the P-07 and P-09 make great hosts for a milled-in optic.  Primary did mine with Vortex Venom and they Cerakote the slide in your color choice, less then $400 all-in.   Just say'in.  O0

Thanks.  I did receive the safety levers but they will go unused in my case.  I did not find a test target anywhere, but that doesn't mean anything to me so not the least bit concerned about it.

A pistol RDS may indeed be in my future, but that's a rather permanent modification and I'm not satisfied they have reached my preferred level of reliability / battery life /robustness...yet.

I'm planning a range trip tomorrow morning so we'll see how it goes.

My EDC P07 has had an RMR on it for 3 or 4 years now.

It's a DI (dual illuminated) so it has no batteries to die/need replacement.  Not everyone loves the way the DI models work, but I'm happy with mine.

The battery operated RMR's are said to have a battery life of a year or more.  Most users just replace them every year - say, on their birthday so they can easily remember to do it.

The DP Pros are good to go as well.  The batteries in the two I have seem to last from one year to the next.  Neither one is carried everyday though so the "shake awake" function doesn't turn the battery on every little bit like would happen if they were used on EDC handguns.

The new Holosun 507 is supposed to have a battery life exceeding either of the previously mentioned handguns sized red dots.  The testing (you can see videos by several testers on you tube) shows them to be reliable even when damaged by forceful drops on to concrete.

I don't rack my slides using the RMRs, I don't drop them on concrete, I don't throw the pistols across the room, etc. so mine haven't been damaged.

With my glasses the front sight and the RMR dot are nice and sharp.  Without the glasses the front sight is invisible to me.  The dot is a blurry dot, but I can see it and put it on a target.

If you can't trust your eyes, you've got to be able to trust the dot.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Took the new P07 to the indoor range today for a test-fire.  I only had time for 50 rds but function was 100% and accuracy was very good....as I expected.

Even though I wear bi-focals, I was able to keep 40 rds in a 5.5" bull target from 7-15 yds.  I fired the last 10 rds DA only at 7 yds and after the fir couple of rds the rest went into one ragged hole.

Impressions:

- The sights are usable in slow fire but they will have to go.

- DA trigger, I expect to smooth up, and I expect to get more accustomed to it.  I didn't detect any gritty feel or hitches in the press I think it'll be good-to-go with use.  SA trigger was good as well.

- Feel was good and though I usually put Talon grips on any plastic gun, I'm not sure this one will need those at all...haven't decided yet. I experienced no issues with inadvertently hitting the slide stop during firing, so that's good news.  No sharp edges made themselves known either, so I'm pretty happy with the ergos.

- Cycling - felt like the gun just shoots harder than my old G19 but it came back onto target quick with minimum muzzle flip, so I chalked that up to me not having fired anything else in a serious manner in the last 8 yrs or so.

- Magazines worked fine but when I loaded 10 rds, they got pretty hard to load so tonight I'll load them to capacity and let them sit a while to see if the springs relax a little.

Overall, I like the way it shot and I'm looking forward to my next range trip!

Thanks Blueknight for the range report.
I think you'll find after 1,000+ both the DA and SA will smooth out and lighten up a bit. Ditto with recoil spring and good slide grease.

Once you settle on which backstrap works best, a set of Talon grips can only improve what's already good. I also have Talons on all my poly guns and they rock.

It's a good feeling looking forward to the next range session, and trying different ammo. My CZ compacts seem to like 124gr and I find S&B FMJ's at a good price and fairly clean for practice. But the P-07 isn't that fussy and It'll eat whatever's left in the can.  O0

Glad to hear the P07 ran good as expected. These omega triggers really do get better with round count. I went with Talon grips (granulate) on my P09 UG/SR and love it. Really locks my hand in. For carry I would not use that style though. Really my only issue with the P07 grip texture is the back strap. It needs to be more agressive for me.

Got the Dawson sights on the way.  Looking forward to trying them out.
