Brownell's buys AR15.Com
« on: June 04, 2019, 08:58:02 PM »
Brownell's announced June 3 that they have purchased the web site AR15.Com

Last year Brownell's bought component dealer and shotgun resource Gamaliel Shooting Supply.

Here's the press release...

Several threads on arfcom about it.

Not everyone is happy about it.

Some expect changes to the forum to make it less "free" for thought/statements that might upset some people.

Some expect changes to the political outlook of the forum.

Some expect it will become a politically correct place many of them won't be happy with (anything the company feels might hurt their image/sales would be squashed/locked/removed, etc.)

Time will tell whether it remains "arfcom" or turns into "fudcom."  Fuds being the name many arfcommers use for people who hunt/shoot with single shots, bolt action rifles, revolvers, etc. and don't see any reason why anyone "needs" semi-automatic guns of any type, why they "need" cheap surplus ammo, why they "need" magazines that hold more than 7 or 8 rounds, etc., etc., etc.

I quite often use the phrase/name "dim/lib/prog/socialist voters or politicians.  It describes what used to be the democratic party and those that support it's politicians.  They continually promote ideas/policies/laws that destroy America and our way of life.  Will "dim/lib/prog/socialist" be a phrase that gets my posts deleted?  Gets me banned?  I guess I'll find out.

Those kinds of people are not my friends.  They do not believe the things I believe.  I am happy to let them live their lives in their own little worlds that do not need reality or facts - but they are not willing to leave me alone to live my life the way I want to live it.  They intend to force me and people like me to live and believe as they do - or to shut up and go away so the way I live my life and the things I believe in won't upset their rickety little applecarts.

I can live just fine without arfcom or Brownells, if it comes to that.  I'm sure they can live without me.

And all those people who worry about the change may be worrying about nothing.  It's in some people's nature to expect the worst.

I am not sure how to take the news. I stopped visiting AR15.com long ago, not enough CZ stuff on there. I can say that Brownells sponsored content on InRangeTV and the Project Lighting series on C&R Arsenal's Youtube channel recently. I was glad to see them do that.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I think it's a solid decision with respect to consolidating resources but ultimately it will ensure that even more political correctness will ensue there. Smart business people won't allow their enterprise to be dragged down or sullied by unseemly behavior that drives off customers.

Nice post M1A4ME ^ .

Many from m4carbine.net refers to AR15.com as Barf.com and I have seen why.    It is yet another forum I seldom lurk in but no longer log on or post at.
Brownell's can have them.

I seem to have a lot of free time on my hands.  Retired, you know.  I don't get to go fishing or shooting as much as I'd like.

And, arfcom seems to be much more "diversified" when it comes to a place where fans of many different brands/types/calibers get together to discuss their new guns, their old guns, their issues with them, etc.

I have 1911's that run like a fine watch.  But, many people seem to have all manner of problems with their 1911's.  I read about their issues and people's suggestions for what to do about it and keep reading hoping to finally get to the posts that says the issue was fixed and what they did to fix it.  Why?  Some day one of my 1911's might have issues and I hope maybe I'll remember reading about a the fixes for a similar issue.

Same with the AR's, the M1 Garands, the CZ pistols, etc.  I haven't broken a CZ yet.  Front night sight on the Urban Gray P01 died not long after I got it but the pistol still worked great.  But, someday, I might break one and hopefully I'll remember what someone hear found and what they did to fix theirs and I'll be back up and running quicker/cheaper.

I'll admit there's a lot of stupid childishness in the GD section but that's a reflection of GS (general society) these days.  As someone on the M14 Firing Line Forum said one day, "Every day I run into people I genuinely believe don't realize water is wet."  He was, obviously, overstating just how far we've sunk these days in people being able to handle, with common sense/actions, their everyday lives.

Brownell's sponsored project lightning for C&Rsenal/Forgotten weapons. Check it out on youtube, you'll love it! Othias from C&R did a quick video how Brownell's liked the project and forked over cash to help with no strings attached.
Maybe some of these bigger forum sites are starting to show good advertisement revenue and Brownell's wants to get in early.

The word on the street is that for their next purchase they're considering buying the United Nations !

It's just a bunch of delegates drinking, whoring and generally doing things in this country that they can't do in their own... all under the shield of "diplomatic immunity". So really, the world's not going to miss them. And Brownells will gain exclusive export privileges to each of those member nations, and thereby broaden their market base.

But again, that's only a rumor.

Better than the Canadians... from Canadia  ::) ... owning it.
But I'll second your assessment of them.   :-[

Don't form an opinion based on the GD forum of arfcom.  The mods allow a lot of stupid stuff to go on there.

In the "technical" forums when someone gets smarty or short or just makes a non-helpful reply the mods step in and shut them down pretty quick.  Lots of good helpful advice from some knowledgeable people about AR15's, pistols, reloading, etc.

Not that I don't enjoy some good weapons-grade STOOOPID in my general discussion (I belong to Pirate4x4  :P ), ARF has gone to plaid BEYOND that...  ::)

For technical discussions, I stick with M4C.

Maybe there will be fewer pricks on there.

Hate going into most areas of that website because of the fanboys that belittle everyone that doesn't buy their beloved brand x.

Hope for the best that it grows and succeeds

Yeah General discussion is a wretched hive but, the tech forums are pretty tightly run. Arfcom has its place. Unknown what the Brownell's acquisition will bring. Not worried about it, not even a little.
