In the same boat. A lifetime of collecting, shooting, competing, reloading. Traveling to competitions, matches, hunting spots with old friends. Many of whom have passed on now. That is all gone now. No sons, no grandsons, to pass anything on to. No one to leave it to. Relatives are all indecisive and uncaring about the second amendment. Not leaving them anything but a long healthy fart when I leave.
Grew up and raised in south. Lived there my whole life. Am leaving it to go live in Massachusetts with my daughter. If I take it with me, I would be in constant fear the state would get it and cut it up for scrap. No, I have to get rid of it before I move. Massachusetts is one
step away from open confiscation. Too old to get mixed up in that.
My wife has convinced me to sell it and not have the worry of it. It would free us up for traveling. Which I like that idea. Was working and could not travel when I was younger. Never had the money for it. Now I will.
Rankin
Rankin,
I grew up in Springfield MA, and my Uncle worked for Smith & Wesson there for over 40 years. There are still many good arms manufacturers there like S&W, Savage Arms, Kahr, ETC.; and SIG just over the border in NH. It's strange to me that MA is so anti-gun. I couldn't wait to get out of there; first moving to 'Live Free or Die' NH 30 years ago, then to NC and FL. Residing in the South where traveling between states with CCW is no problem until you get furtherr North to mid Atlantic and Northeast. UGH!
You're smart to not attempt to travel there with firearms, even if they're legal in the states you're traveling through, there's the issue of not recognizing Southern State's CCW' permits. It's really stupid IMHO to not have one Federal standard for CCW, but it is what it is.
However, IF you wish to maintain something to continue enjoying the hobby and SD, I would imagine once you settle there you could obtain a MA CCW and have some of your 'MA legal firearms and magazines' transferred legally from your current local FFL to a MA FFL. I have friends there who shoot regularly, you'll just have to re-familiarize yourself with the local more restrictive laws. YMMV
