P-07 sight selection / removal / installation
« on: October 01, 2019, 04:15:09 PM »
I am considering replacing the stock night sights on my ODG P-07 with a set of Night Fision sights.  I think the stock sights are pretty decent as far as visibility, but where I find them lacking is they don't have an actual ledge on the front side of the rear sight to facilitate emergency one-handed racking of the slide.  I replaced the stock sights on my other P-07 a couple of years ago with CGW's tritium sights made by Dawson, which also have decent visibility for me, but are shaped exactly like stock sights so also don't have a ledge for one-handed racking.

Of the self-defense night sights available for for the P-07 which do appear to have a ledge to facilitate one-handed racking, there are the XS big or small dot sights, and the Night Fision sights, that I am aware of.  I am used to three-dot green sights so I figure I'll go with the Night Fisions with either white or yellow around the green on the front, and black with green on the rear.

I am also thinking of taking the opportunity to get whatever tools and plan I need to successfully remove my front and rear stock sights without destroying them, and install the new sights myself.  From what I have read here in the past, you can get a fairly inexpensive tool to push out the rear sight from its dovetail and push in the new one.  The front sight seems more problematic, due to the threadlocker applied, so I will need to apply heat to release that before trying to carefully tap it out and not destroy it in the process.

Any feedback on my reasoning for wanting to replace the sights, sight selection, and approach towards removal and installation would be appreciated.

I changed my stock sights on my P-07 to the Dawson night sights from Cajun. The Dawson's came with a soft punch to drift off the old sights. I have soft pads for my bench vise so I just locked down the slide in the vise and started hammering until the stock sights were off. Make sure to clean the dovetails out before you fit the new sights in. I then had to use a small file and lightly fit the new rear sight to fit the dovetail until it slid in about 1/3 the way then I just smacked it in place with the soft punch provided. I then bore sighted the sights with a laser and adjusted as needed, I also had some tape on the slide that showed where the old sights were. Once I was in place I put some blue locktite on the set screw and tightened it down. Once it sat for a day I was good to go.

I found that the Dawson's have a great sight picture and I can easily rack the slide one handed on belts and cloths pretty easy even if it doesn't have a pronounced shelf to do so.

Thanks for the response.  I think I'll practice more with my stock sights and see if I can work my technique for one-handed rack with them, then decide how to proceed based on the results of that.

CZ Custom sells a rear sight pusher: https://czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/front-and-rear-sights/cz-rear-sights-all/cz-rear-sight-pusher.html.

Easily move the fixed rear sight on your CZ Pistols.

Works for 75 / 75B / 85 / PCR / P01 / Compact / P07 / P09 / Phantom / 97B and SP01/ 75 Shadow/ SP01 Shadow/ Shadow 2/  A01 Pistols.

Pusher clamps to the slide for precision adjustment. No more need for hammer and vise to easily adjust you fixed read sight.

This is a sight adjustment tool and was never designed for complete removal or insertion of rear sight.

Sights should be tapped in until they have correctly settled in the dovetail and then the adjuster used to center or adjust. If the block was bigger the potential for putting the sight in incorrectly grows exponentially.

Does not work with P10  Pistols.

I have replaced the stock sights on my P10Cs and a one of my P07s with Night Fision sights.  I am a fan and eventually, all of the P07s will get those.  I use an inexpensive sight pusher bought on Amazon.  It’s worked very well for me.

I bought this and it has worked fine on my CZ 07 and a couple of Glocks. I like it! I used it to install the rear Night Fision on my 07.

That's the same one I use.
