P07 Duty spring kit
« on: January 06, 2020, 10:00:46 PM »
My P07 Duty is getting a CGW spring kit. Comes with a yellow 18# self defense hammer spring and a 15# range/competition spring. Does anyone use the 15# spring with self defense ammo (HST, Gold Dot) without issues?  The lighter DA pull goes well with the decocker. But reliability is more important.

I use the 18lb spring in mine and wouldn't care to go any lighter on a gun that I may need to defend myself with. That's not to say the 15lb spring wouldn't work. If you want to use that one I'd test it extensively with the ammo you intend to carry.

In all of my Pguns I run Wolf/Tula.  My 15 OB springs run it 99% - some are 100% with it.  Never a problem with brass.  So... I will and do run them with 15 LBers for SD.  Each gun can be different as CGW will tell you.  See what works.

Yes, I will run my SD ammo thru it. I just wanted to see what others are doing. [emoji106]

the 15lb spring with an extended firing pin will set off anything, 100% of the time (in my experience)

I run 15 lb CGW hammer springs and stock firing pins in two P-07's.  They both detonate 100% of the ammo I shoot for practice and carry for self-defense.  I don't shoot any steel cased ammo like Wolf or Tula, so I can't speak for that.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll run a bunch of different ammo thru it and see how it works.

My point about Russian stuff is that it has the hardest primers.  If you shoot brass, 15LB is 100%.

Emailed CGW. They say I should use an extended firing pin

That is what they recommended to me a couple of years ago. I don't buy much Wolf or Tula, but I did test it out with the CZ pistols I Cajunized to make sure the lighter mainspring would be good for hard primers.

Although I never tested with Tula or Wolf, I have shot a lot of Sellier&Bellot which are supposed to have harder primers than most or all US-made ammo.  I've seen people here on the forum and on YouTube reporting light strikes with S&B primers in a P-07 and/or P-09 running the 15 lb hammer springs, but never had a light strike with one myself, having fired many hundreds of them, probably over 1K of them combined through both of my P-07's.  I've had light strikes with S&B primers in other pistols, which I why I use them to test after changing something with my pistols that might cause them.  Tula or Wolf would be a better test, but I don't like the idea of running steel cased ammo through my guns, and some ranges I frequent don't even allow it, because of their brass collection and re-sale processes.
