Laser attachments and Red Dots for SP-01?
« on: October 04, 2019, 04:37:05 PM »
Do any of you use laser attachments for your CZ 75 SP-01?  How about Red Dots?  Which models?

Considering using a Crimson Trace product but would appreciate your feedback on finding a laser to help with targeting and home defense.  Which model did you use?  Alternatively if you do not use CT what other companies products did you find helpful?  Thank you!
WTB PM if you got any for sale:
CZ 75 SHORT RAIL (factory blued)
CZ 75 PRE-B (factory blued).

Like almost everything else, of course, your red dot or laser of choice, and whether to use one at all, is definitely a matter of personal preference.

For "home defense" purposes, I use a Viridian laser/light combination that is picatinny rail mounted. The benefit, in my opinion, is that target acquisition is generally quicker through a laser, because of course there is no sight alignment process, and you could begin firing from any imaginable position. The light I intended as a strobe for disorientation or just a light for generally being able to see in the dark. With either a laser or a light, obviously they both point back to your location as well when you employ them. You have to weigh what you feel to be most important. For my and my wife's operation in the worst case scenario, ie. awoken from sleep in the middle of the night, I went with the easiest and quickest method of target acquisition.

For a red dot, I use a Vortex Venom. I like their price point, and I like the size/MOA of the dot. I've had no issue with mine and have shot it in a variety of conditions.

I have used a crimson trace grip laser on a Glock before, and I definitely found it to be useful when you get used to it. The zeroing isn't terribly precise (in my experience), it's good enough for home/personal defense options.

Quantumburster has made some good recommendations.

Personally, I've gone all-in on red dots. My 'ol eyes can't focus on both the target and iron sights very well anymore, especially at night without 'readers' on.
They take some getting used to; but I feel the discipline that it takes to consistently present the gun, while focusing on the target with both eyes open, in a manner that the dot consistently appears just makes me a better shooter.  But I suppose the same goes for a laser.

I had CZ Custom mill my SP-01 for their 'multi-optic' plates; had them mount a DPPro and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The DPPro is a superb optic with a large 'window'. I use the optional Leupold adjustable rear iron with a Dawson tall front sight for BUIS.
But for a compact CCW, the DPPro is a bit large, so I had them mill my P-01 and used their plate to mount a Vortex Venom. I use the vertical 'goal post' markings on the back of the Venom for my BUIS.

The advantage to the CZCustom set-up is that you can switch optics at a later date by changing plates.

IMO either Red-Dot will serve you well on your SP-01   -Vinny

That is a nice set up Vinny!  How much did the milling work cost?  And about how long did it take?  Do you mount a light too?  Which make and model?  Thank you!

If I recall, CZ Custom charged about $220 for milling, mounting plate, and optic mounting. It's solid as a rock! They typically quote about 4 weeks, but mine was about 3-1/2 weeks door-to-door.

CGW also does excellent work.

GCW has my SP-01 right now.  Having them install an SRO with adapter plate.  I'll be sure to report back once i get it in maybe a couple weeks.

Red Dots are the way to go. You can shoot faster and more accurate. Lasers on the other hand: very close in the dark will help you out, at about 7 yards a laser does not help most shooters and at longer distances start to distract shooters as the laser bounces all over the place.

I am using the Crimson Trace Rail Master (CRM-206) on my CZ 75B SP01 and I find it to be completely satisfactory.  It mounts perfectly on the pistol's accessory rail and enables me to achieve groups about the same as I get shooting with the iron sights.  It is a great accessory for the SP01.

I totally agree, and for my SP01 I have a HiLight Green Laser/Light combo on the rail (co-witnessed to a front Fiber-Optic Dawson Precision sight), and a Vortex Venom milled into the slide, and both are great now for at least 1000 rounds.
