Help Choosing 1st CZ

You whipper-snappers are lucky!  Why, back when I got my first CZ pistol the only choices were a 75...or an 85 and the only difference was that the 85 had ambi safeties and the 75 didn't.  That said, I don't think you can go wrong with either a 75B or an SP-01 for your stated purposes (range and HD).

Personally I suggest a 75. I own a good many CZ handguns and quite frankly the SP01 Tactical is my LEAST favorite one.

If I wanted one for range, home defense and maybe concealed carry at some later date, the 75 would fit that list. It may be too large for some to comfortably carry but IMO that depends on how you will be dressing when you carry. With the right holster and light jacket or even an untucked shirt I can conceal a 75 on my rather slight frame (my frame not the gun's frame).

I think a PCR is a fair choice too but is more on the carry and home defense side vs a gun to punch holes in paper but it does hold its own there.

I own a 75B, 75BD, and SP01 and these are far and away my favorite semi-auto handguns.  If you want a laser, the SP01 is the obvious choice given that it has a rail.  All of these are terrific shooters and highly reliable -- I have never had a stovepipe or jam with any of my CZs.  Never.  Really.

My advice is to seriously consider what should be your SECOND CZ and get that one first!

The CZ SP-01 is a great pistol, it's my favorite, but you can have a CZ without dealing with the DA/SA. Have you ever considered a CZ P-10 or P-10C? I've never had the opportunity to check them out, but I hear great things about them.

If you've always wanted one.....get one.
If anyone tries to talk you out of a SP-01 they are biased.

Other CZ's are good but if you want the SP-01 you will be very happy when you egt it.
