Stainless P-01 peeling over on FB. . .
« on: November 03, 2018, 07:27:25 PM »
I was just on the CZFOG FB page. One of the long time regulars posted a video of his new S.S. P-01 slide peeling along the rails. The rollmarks also like they were poorly electro-penciled. He's emailed CZ-USA and is awaiting a response. Wonder what the deal is?

The rollmarks are horrible, I wonder if they all look like that? The S.S. 75's I've seen had clean rollmarks.

Didn't even know about this model. Is it an aluminum frame P01 then coated or just the slide or what?

Thought the new SS P01?s were actual stainless steel, not a coating? SS doesn?t peel.

This thread shows one polished up.
lets bling this blingy thingie out even more

  You can?t polish a coating.

They're supposed to be polished stainless steel. That appears to be questionable from the video I saw.

My copy is definitely polished stainless steel and not coated. I saw the FB thread. My rails look nothing like what is shown in his video. Mine were polished smooth when it was new, and though that has clouded a little where the slide meets the frame (as is understandable as it?s a friction point), it is still completely smooth.

Does yours have the electro-penciled markings?

Wondering if someone was trying to be slick and had a batch of them, had them plated and sold them as stainless steel ones.... I don't understand why it would be peeling that way, I saw this earlier today myself on Facebook.

It's a closed group so I don't think the video will work, but here's a link. This pic shows it too, but not as well. The pic also shows the horrible markings.

Yes. All examples I have seen in person (3) have those....so that is legit.

I can?t put my finger on it, but the pics and video provided of that pistol look....rough. The details are correct...but sloppy. It?s polished but doesn?t look mirror-like. The electro pencil is correct but looks like there are marks around the edges...then of course the rough rails and flaking. Something about that copy is not right...I don?t know if it?s a forgery...was it a Friday afternoon late copy that got rushed through QA so the workers could hurry up and grab a beer at happy hour...maybe!

Here are some pics of mine:

I agree that it's doesn't look great, but both things appear to be cosmetic.  The slide rail appears do have been left a bit tight, and the edge where the shard came off seems to have been left sharp, not rounded.  The rail will wear in.  The slide markings could've been done better; the 75D Compact surplus same I bought has equally rough markings, but it is what it is.  Perhaps the customer could have rejected the transfer and had CZ USA send him another sample, or worked out a deal to send him some accessories as a credit. Many times commercial guns are finished to a finer level than military contracts, but the guy who did that one just didn't pay attention, or was new to the game.  I don't blame the buyer for being disappointed, especially if it's more for looking rather than shooting, but he should have inspected it at the dealer's prior to signing the papers.

It wasn't peeling until I polished the rails weeks after I bought it! So inspection would not have caught it! Here a year later it is probably my most accurate compact CZ I own but the rails on both sides are bubbling and flaking now!

Sounds like you are the original FB guy? What was CZs response to the issue?

I'm not an metallurgy expert, but how does stainless steel bubble and flake?
