What to purchase: Shadow 2, Target II, CGW SP-01?
« on: November 05, 2019, 11:59:41 AM »
Trying to decide what will be my first CZ purchase:

Tried a stock Shadow 2 and loved everything about it - except it isn't allowed in IDPA.

The SP-01 Shadow Target II looks to be good in both USPSA Production and also IDPA in either SSP or ESP. - haven't shot one and it is the most expensive.

The CGW SP-01 is the least expensive and could be used in USPSA Production and IDPA ESP. But, it also has a 10 week wait.

Other factors: I don't shoot IDPA much - I would probably shoot a max of 5-6 times per year and I could just use my plastic defensive pistols, which is what I'm currently doing.

Of the three choices, I've only tried the Shadow 2 and it was great. Almost too good to be true compared to my Glocks and M&P pistols.

The Shadow 2 is a GREAT pistol. The frame fits smaller hands better than the SP-01 which is slightly larger and a better fit for large hands. You can have the slide milled to make weight for IDPA if that is important? The Shadow 2 has a much better trigger out of the box. Sorry but I can’t offer any comparison on the target model.

I can't speak to the Shadow or Target but I did just recently have CGW install their pro package in my SP-01 Tactical/Decocker, along with milling it for and installing an SRO RDS. Wow!  Just wow. I loved the gun before (I have medium hands and the SP01 fits just right - like it's made for me, especially with "shelf" on the original and some after market grips on which my shooting hand thumb rests perfectly).  Now with the CGW package, it's a whole new level of unnatural handgun love. Amazing DA and SA - smooth and precise.  And the SRO simply rocks.

To the OP if you haven't bought a gun yet you can get a two tone sp-01 shadow for $828 at CZ Custom. I have two of them in all black and they are good guns.

What is different about it that allows it to fit smaller hands?

What? The S2 frame is objectively larger than the SP01.

Uhh...  you must have the two pistols mixed up.  The SP01 has a smaller grip and would fit smaller hands better than the S2.

I believe the Shadow Orange (SKU 91764) is 38.5 +/- oz. I just weighed mine which has an optic plate and a Venom RDS mounted and it weights 40.5 oz.

I had same quandary about which to get for IDPA. Finally decided they all shoot better than I do so I ordered an SP-01 tactical from CGW. I have a stock shadow 2 so I'll see how they compare when I get it.
