I think you meant to say out of steel or some other metal than aluminum. I have a Bull Shadow with the RDS plate by CZC. It is firmly affixed to the milled slide and has been trouble free after 3,500 rounds. I don't see that a "steel/other metal" plate would offer anything different. Naturally the aluminum weight of the plate is minimal.
I also have several 1911s with a dovetail mounted RDS aluminum plate manufactured by EGW, combined 20,000 rounds thru these 1911s and not had any issues structurally with these either.
