shadow 1 vs Shadow 2
« on: December 13, 2019, 11:59:31 AM »
Just looking for opinions. SPO1 Shadow can be found for $200 cheaper and can shoot in IDPA. I've actually shot a Shadow 2 and like it very much but can only shoot in USPSA. I rarely shoot IDPA so that point is not a deal breaker.

Secondly, for competition, is CGW or CZ Custom work needed to be competitive. Or are both good to go stock? Mainly referring to the DA pull.

If you rarely shoot IDPA get the Shadow 2 and shoot more USPSA In my opinion

No the guns don't need any work to use in competition, for that matter and truthfully I know a lot of guys that use stock 75's and shoot competition better than most guys do with very nice tricked out guns.

Get the shadow 2. If you want to lower the DA and/or SA pull, replace the hammer spring with a lighter (11.5 or 13#) spring and polish the internals. Use professor Atlas’ guide in polishing the internals so you’ll get a smoother DA and SA trigger pull.

You can do all the upgrades yourself without sending them to CGW or CZC. There are YouTube videos outlining the procedures. You can ask questions here in the board and get answers to your questions.

i did all the work on my shadow 2 with the exception of milling the slide for a red dot. After polishing and installing an 11.5# main spring, DA is 5# 4.3 oz and SA is 1# 9.9 oz.

I’ve had both.  IMO, the SP-01 Shadows and 75 Shadow needed much more work to improve the trigger pull.  My Shadow 1’s were customized by CZ Custom and they did a really nice job polishing, spring changes, hammer/sear tuning, and reach reduction.  However compared to my Shadow 2, all I had to do was re-spring it and a DIY polish to get a comparable DA/SA trigger pull.

The Shadow 2 fits my hand better, especially how the beavertail sits in the web of my hand.  More comfortable over a long day at the range.  The added weight is nice to keep it flat shooting.
