DW Vigil Slow Slide
« on: December 02, 2019, 05:40:10 PM »
I have noticed that the slide on my 9mm full size Vigil seems to be slow while cycling during shooting, especially if using 115g ammo. We were out shooting on Thanksgiving with family and the temp was about 36 degrees and damp, and the gun was probably that cold as well. Shooting federal 115g fmj the slide seem to be really slow I guess short cycling as it would not eject the fired brass. We had to cycle the slide by hand after every shot in order to eject the spent case.

What is the stock spring weight for the 9mm Vigil and should I go down one or  two lbs in spring weight for better reliability?

Never had this issue before either indoors or outside, but it was also warmer. As mentioned it has always seemed slow with 115g fmj. It cycles faster with 124 and up, but still does not feel as quick as my other 1911s.

What do you lube the gun with? Grease on the rails will definitely slow things down in cold weather but even at that once the gun is hot it would speed up. I'd give DW a call and see what they say about a lighter recoil spring.

Just an update, talked to the mothership today and was informed that they use a 10# recoil spring in the 5 inch Vigil in 9mm.

Also said the recommend Mobil One Synthetic car oil for all their 1911s.
