75 Hammer Dimensions
« on: December 18, 2019, 12:20:59 PM »
Does anyone have a machinist's drawing or a sketch with the proper dimensions of a 75 hammer?  I'm particularly interested to know how tall above the flat the hooks should be?  Thanks.

I don't have a drawing but I have a stock hammer close at hand. Measuring with a dial caliper holding it in my hand I came up with 0.022 to 0.024. You should also know that there is an under-cut at the base to allow the sear to make 100% contact on the flat portion.

I hope this helps.

I've got mine, though I'm amazed at how dinged up it is from years of normal use; they must not be hardened well.  What I'm looking for is the blueprint height rather than the actual height, sort of like .018" is the height for a 1911's hammer hooks, but they are generally taller due to manufacturing tolerances.  I noticed the flats were very rough and wasn't sure how tall the hook should be above it, but wanted to make a jig and recut it on the mill.  I may just polish what I have until I come up with a proper height or decide to sacrifice mine to modify until failure to make a record of it.  Thanks for the help!
