Second CZ Pistol
« on: December 07, 2019, 01:04:34 PM »
For the sake of full disclosure, I also have a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Pistol, but I don't really consider that a pistol.
It's not a pistol, and it's not a rifle.  But it has a lot of good elements from both.  :)

I have had a Shadow 2 for two years now. Only one thing kept me from buying more CZs.
The trapezoid shaped slide that is narrower at the top is kind of hard to grip for racking.
If you have a little arthritis, and I have a lot in my thumbs, it becomes more of an issue.

I'm pretty sure the slide isn't an issue for 90% of buyers.

Also; I wish the CZ had a decocker. It has the sweetest double action trigger made.
If it weren't for the slide shape, I would snap up a CZ 75 P-01 Omega.

With all the models, and different jargen, it's time consuming to try to do research.

Yesterday afternoon, I wound up in a gun shop, totally confused with all the different models.
I did know I wanted a threaded barrel, and the Urban Gray finish looked good.
They had two; a 75B Omega, and another (P01?).

They looked the same to me, but were very different guns. The 75B Omega was much easier to rack. Also, the trigger and decocker were much nicer and smoother. The saleaman referred to them as "Light Recoil Spring" and "Heavy Recoil Spring". He thought everything else was the same.

I wound up buying the CZ 75B Omega Convertible ("Light Recoil Spring"). It's MUCH easier to rack than my Shadow 2. Of course, the Shadow 2 has a better trigger.

When I break it down to clean today, I'm going to try the recoil spring in my Shadow. Maybe I can kill two birds with one stone???

Well; the springs do interchange.  And the 75B spring does make the Shadow 2 rack a bit easier.
I'm glad I cleaned it before shooting, it was really dry.  I lubed it up well, now it feels even better.
I put everything back how it was, and cleaned up.

I'm not sure if I will carry the 75B Omega, but I might.
If it shoots as well as the Shadow 2, I probably will carry it.
I'm not worried about the double action, I have lots of Sigs, Berettas, and double action revolvers.

I'll shoot it Monday, but don't anticipate any problems.  I'm looking forward to a long and happy relationship.  ;D

Please feel free to add anything you think I need to know.

Personally, I really like the Shadow 2, however...I wish it came with a decocker.  So I parted with the one I had.  I have but two CZ’s currently.  A CZ-97BD and a CZ-75D (P-01 in the U.S.).  I’ve got two calibers covered with those.

Yeah I could see why people might think CZ’s are harder to rack the slide if you are used to doing it with your thumb and forefinger from the back of the slide. Try racking the slide by placing your hand over the top of the slide instead and see if that makes it easier for you. I also remember the first time I held a CZ and noticing how much narrower the slides are than most guns, don’t even notice it at all now though.
Congrats on your new 75! :)

Congrats on your new 75 B Omega.  I just picked one up myself before Thanksgiving.  They are sweet pistols!

Wait until somebody hands you a PCR to try.

Instant new carry gun.

PCR?  I don't recognise that acronym.

PCR is basically a non-railed P-01 CZ compact handgun...

I have always wanted a Shadow 2. They look amazing. However, I am not a compitition shooter and I prefer having a de-cocker. So, I have an SP-01 Tactical and love it!

I never regretted my Shadow 2, and I am not a compitition shooter either.
It was a birthday present, and at 72, how many birthdays will I get?

The 75B Omega, at $605 is plenty good enough to let my friends try it.  Nobody touches the Shadow without close supervision.

The P-07 frankly shocked me with it's value.  A $410 pistol that puts my Glock 19 to shame.

They all have thier own niche and price point.  All are definitely worth what they cost.

it is acronym-ese for an aluminum-alloy frame CZ 75 Compact D without rail, since that is what the Police Czech Republic said they wanted

The PCR design was the original CZUB compact pistol for the Czech Police tender in the late 90s. Over a period of a couple of trial runs, modifications were made such that the final product is basically the P-01 as we know it today with the rail. It’s the pistol adopted by the national police force. The original rail had a partial cut that only accommodated a proprietary mount but later changed to Mil-Std-1913. The Pazdera book covers it in detail.

It seemed almost like typical Czech sense of humor that the original design not adopted by the police was assigned the PCR name for primary export to the US market [emoji3]

The PCR will be a life changing experience for you  ;D

My first was a 75b which I carried until I bought my PCR.

I am with you on that. I still do want a Shadow 2 for sure!

I picked up my Shadow 2 last Saturday.   250 rds to date and love it.   I’m just a “plinker” but this bad boy makes it so easy to hit with that it’s ridiculous.   Already one of my favorite pieces.   Only problem with this pistol is it eliminates any excuse you have for missing😏.

Thank you Tok36. I always wondered what that acronym stood for.
