SP01 Triggers
« on: December 20, 2019, 11:38:21 AM »
Do many of the new ones suck?  Picked up two (Tactical) in the LGS yesterday, and both were awful - I mean horrible - so gritty and stiff that they were really unusable.  The Phantom needed some work, but these steel guns were wretched.  Is CZ just throwing out crap these days?

(Truth be told, their P07 was also horrible).

Hit or miss on a good trigger getting out. Just takes some TLC to clean it up and make it great. The tactical is heavy out of the box and the machining marks make them gritty. But when they are massaged over, it is pure buttah

Luck of the draw.

The Phantom I just received today has a 9lb 2oz DA and super smooth.
SA is 4lb 5oz.
All that right out the box. It's one of, if not the best, stock CZ 75 triggers I've ever felt. I have a CGW Pro Kit to put in it, and in all honesty, I probably would think twice about putting it in if I could live with the longer reset on the stock trigger.

TBH, I have no idea. I usually replace the craptastic recurve trigger with the old style 85 combat, some version of the competition trigger, hand fit a type 3 disco, install an extended firing pin, and replace all the springs with lighterbl ones.

This has been my experience as well. Though it doesn't take alot to get them right and well worth the time it takes.

I agree with the other posters, it's luck of the draw.  My last three purchases were CZ75b stainless models from 2018 to late 2019, and they have decent factory triggers. In the last two years, I sold a P-01, matte stainless 75, and a SP-01 that had below average triggers and another stainless 75 that had poor slide to frame fitment.  When you buy online, you're taking that chance, but for me, it's a risk worth taking when you can save substantial dollars.

As much as I like the CZs I own, I consider all of them to have been projects that I wasn't happy with out of the box - esp. when it came to triggers. As others have said, it may not take that much to improve them, but unless you are buying a Shadow, they generally can all stand some degree of upgrade.

In comparison to another very well-known make of DA/SA pistols, I'll just say that you may pay more for that other brand, but they typically need little, if any improvement, out of the box. I think a lot of it comes down to - do you want a pistol that's ready to go? Or do you want to save a little money up front, and then spend it on improvements? There are solid arguments to be made either way.

The Phantoms I see are not too bad - not good but not good.  All others are really terrible.  I did see a P01 Omega at the recent show that was smooth, but felt like 17 LBs.  I am amazed and think they are worse and worse because they are cranking product, and have jettisoned any QC.  Bought a SIG CC last year that is awesome - sometimes $100 is worth $200.
