New carry gun
« on: December 21, 2019, 08:27:00 PM »
Picked this up today:

Now I need to find good IWB and OWB holsters. I will be shooting the revolver tomorrow with several types of ammo to see what works best for practice and carry/defense ammo. I hope it will shoot well with Federal Micro HST 130gr +p or Buffalo Bore's 110gr Barnes Tac-XP +p for 38 Special ammo and Buffalo Bore's 125gr Tac-XP or good old Federal 357B 125gr SJHP for 357 Magnum ammo. These all shoot well in my S&W 66-3 and 38 Special only from my Ruger LCR.

That looks great. One of the youtubers said the other day that Colt is going to have new Python models available real soon.

I'd love to see that, as long as the quality is comparable to the old Pythons. The 2019 King Cobra trigger is as good or better than my old Trooper IV or Peace Keeper. DA is smoother and lighter, SA is slightly heavier and just as clean. It's DA also smoother and lighter than my son's old model King Cobra with a similar SA.

I doubt Colt will be able to match the previous Python quality as years ago gun companies employed true gunsmiths.Today they employ production workers. What the new Python will do is seriously reduce the price point of those old guns so the guys that held out for maximum value before selling their snake guns will lose now. Just the re-intro of the Cobra line alone has had an effect on the old Colt revolver's value.

Check out Don Hume holsters.
I got one for my S&W 4516-1 OWB and absolutely love it. Very comfortable, even being an all stainless steel pistol.

Very happy after shooting about 300 rounds or 38 Special and 357 Magnum ammo. So far I think my carry ammo will be Buffalo Bore's 110gr all copper +P 38 Special ammo. It's accurate and performed well on trapped feral hogs . Second best is the same Federal HST Micro +P 130gr 38 Special I carry in my LCR. It shoots 125gr 357 Ammo well, but that rapidly gets uncomfortable to shoot. I tried a few rounds of the 180gr hunting ammo I use in my 5 inch 686, that stuff started to get painful quickly. At 28 ounces it's a bit light to be shooting heavy 357 loads for very long.

Changed the grips to a more compact wood set from Altamont, the rubber grips stick to my shirt and make it very obvious I'm carrying.

New grips:
