Storage boxes for AR-15 ammo/reloads
« on: July 21, 2022, 07:24:21 PM »
I was thinking about something "less amateur" than zip-locks to store my reloads for AR-15.
Found these cardboard boxes 3x3x4 size very convenient. Holds 10 strip clips of .223/5.56, so 100 rounds/box.
You can pack them without strip clips, so it will hold even more, but I usually do 100 rounds batches when reload.

I've been down this road before. Some cardboard are acidic. Leave ammo in for a while and you have corrosion. Tried the Styrofoam trays and boxes. Had the same problem for long term storage. I've gone back to plastic ammo boxes or for large amounts of ammo, zip lock bags in 50 cal ammo cans.

I store and transport my rifle ammo in plastic ammo boxes.  But if I load more than I have boxes for I use left over plastic nut jars from Costco.  I suppose surplus GI ammo cans or the plastic ones would work just fine as well for bulk ammo.

i guess it all depends on your endgame.

if its just range fodder, i use ammo cans.

if its some ammo im trying to test and get a good/accurate load for that gun/ammo combo, then i use an MTM or similar partitioned ammo box.  Its hard to keep different loads in a ziplock or cardboard box unless they have a divider.  I also put the ammo bullets up too.

But i bought a bunch of 223 accessories packs? that have the cardboard sleeve and bandoliers and i got some of the stripper clips too.  So if i want i can have them in bandoliers ready to rock.

This is exactly what I've found that works best.

I like these guys.

Gets you nice cube boxes of 30. I got a bunch of those and the 20rnd 308 size. Both are fine and great to have around.

Range fodder goes into mags and peanut butter jars.

A good amount of may .223 reloads are stored in the magazines in the cases the rifles/carbines are in.

The extra is stored in ammo cans (a couple cases of store bought ammo) and the rest is stored in washed out plastic pretzel, candy and coffee containers.

I right a note and place in the top of the container with the date the ammo was loaded, the bullet, power and primer info/make and the charge weight.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
