6.5 creedmor too metro?
« on: March 03, 2020, 01:57:58 PM »
This is what I found on the internet:

"I just got bit by the 6.5 bug too. But I went with the grandpappy of them all, the 6.5x55 Swede. And I'm also building a .260 Rem for a mountain gun. The CM is just too trendy and metro for me to get on board with. Reminds me of bearded millenials, drinking kombucha, wearing skinny jeans and discussing the "merits" of socialism. "

It also reminded me of that meme:

I think that's a bit of a stretch and I wouldn't put much stock in it.  Some shooters are just a bit upset that it may be replacing the 7.62x51 NATO.

BTW, USSOCOM are rechambering their Sniper Rifles to this Caliber, as there are long range ballistic advantages to it over the 7.62x51 NATO.
Further adoption by NATO member Nations is expected.

A lot of people say the same thing about CZs so I would just ignore those people too [emoji23][emoji106][emoji41][emoji631]

There is a lot of merit with the cartridge and I found it easy to load for and shoot accurately. Plus I was quite surprised that I found some relatively cheap factory ammo that shot almost as well as my handloads. There is also a big interest in 6 Creedmor, which is hotter/better but hard on barrels.

Lots of choices these days and lots of good cartridges to choose from.

It may be,  it I don’t usually care what people think.  Everyone thinks my CZs are hippy/metro too.

I’ve been looking for a nice used. 6.5 Tikka. Hard to find for a good price though

I jumped on the 6.5 wagon about 4 years ago and never looked back. The 260 guys aren't wrong though. I went from 30-06 straight to 6.5 , skipping the 308.
I handload all rounds, shoot up to 1k yds with a fixed power tasco scope from the 80's.

Anyone that calls the 6.5 hipster, gets to see me pull the garand or 03A3 - then I can call them the hipster.

Is 6.5 grendel hipster?   I just built up an AR platform grendel for deer hunting for me and my kids.   Zero kick and plenty accurate!

I've settled on barnes 100gr tsx based on my research and initial load development with the 127gr Lrx.  I just can't push the LRX hard enough.   The 100gr tsx will be plenty for deer sized game.

Cheers,
Toby

The 6.5 Grendel is not hipster. The Grendel I build is my white tail rifle. An absolute hammer for my hunting distance needs.

No hipster here, my 6.5 CM hangs out in the hunting woods!  Savage lightweight hunter, 20 inch barrelled bolt action, 5.5 lbs a beauty for whitetail deer, whether still hunting all day or sitting in a tight box blind.  I was originally thinking the same gun in 7mm-08 would be perfect for this application (and it might be for some), but not currently hand loading, only 120 gr fodder is commonly available for 7mm-08 where a ton of options for 6.5 CM in hunting tips abound.  I haven't shot a factory round that sucks yet (350 yards), although the HSM target rounds (IIRC would have to check my notes) chambered tighter than all others in my rifle.

I haven't outgrown my heavy .243 Win.for long range, yet and still love my relatively heavy 30-06 hunting gun for long range shooting, too, but I'd be hard pressed to leave the Savage back home if in the whitetail woods!  Aint nuthin the 6.5 Swede can do, that the 6.5 Creedmoor can't do better, except shoot Swede ammo!

Now, 6mm Creedmoor is definitely a metro sexual cartridge FO SHO!
