CZ-82 Slide Lock Issue
« on: May 28, 2014, 06:17:42 PM »
Hi I am having an issue with my CZ82 and I was hoping to find some help.  I hope I posted in the right place, if not let me know.

The issue is, when firing the gun, it works flawlessly every time for the first two or three mags that I put through it.  Then after that, the slide will start to lock back intermittently with rounds still in the mag.  When this happens, I just hit the slide release and continue firing until it happens again.  So the gun will still work normally, but I sure would like it to only lock back after the last round has been fired.  Now, the research that I have done says, the slide lock spring needs replaced.  I did have tension on the slide release, but I replaced it anyways.  No change, the issue still persist.  Any of you guys have any other ideas of what the issue is?  I clean my gun after each use, I have used steel cased and brass case ammo but no change there and it happens on both mags.  What else could it be?  Thanks for any help.

Does this happen with two different magazines?

And how exactly would my thumb be on it since I shoot left handed?

And how exactly would we know that until you mention it? Shooters resting their thumb on the slide catch is an extremely common reason for premature lock back. Since that can obviously not be the case here, I suggest you next check that the magazines are not gunked up inside and maybe stretch out the mag springs a little. After that, replace the slide catch spring.

I did already replace the slide stop spring.   I'll double check the mags.

This happens to my CZ83 if the grip screws start to get loose. Under recoil the grips shift slightly and touch the slide lock. It doesn't take much to cause the slide to lock back.

Are your grips capable of doing the same thing?

Good to know.  I will take a look at that.  Thanks for the info!

It is possible, but not likely, that the recoil spring itself is the cause.  If it is a surplus pistol and you haven't changed the recoil spring yet, it is probably worth doing anyways.

You may need a "third hand" with a new spring.  I seem to recall having a real chore reassembling the pistol with a brand new spring.

Good thought.  Thank you!

Sorry for resurrecting a long-dead thread but I have the exact same issue:  CZ82 locks to the rear with rounds still in the mag.  3 different mags, 2 different kinds of ammo.

Anyone figure this out?
