PCR Out of Battery
« on: March 16, 2020, 04:48:29 PM »
Green's all. I have a brand new 75d PCR. I absolutely love the gun and saved three years to buy it. Now I find that it jams out of battery with hollow points and flat nose 9 mm. I will tell you these are my own handloads and I have never had any problems shooting with my Ruger SR9C. What causes a gun to jam out of battery? I'm assuming this CZ is fine and maybe just a little finicky with my hand loads. I have read that putting in a lower pound recoil spring may solve the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tom

Before you start messing with handgun try branded ammo. I'll start with regular round nose at the beginning, then go with Hollow Points.
Check on forum what people are using, but if I remember correctly Fiocchi, S&B, Magtech should be great for testing.
How is round chambered? Does it sit correctly?
If you still have the same problem with branded ammo let us know.

Plunk test your loads. If they don’t fall out of the chamber went tipped, you will need to adjust your hand loads: OAL and or crimp.

CZs are known to have short throats.

Yep, it's your ammo. Doesn't matter what other guns it runs in.

As others have stated it is definitely your handloaded ammo. CZ chambers tend to run short so you will have to do the plunk test and adjust your seating depth and col. I learned this when I transitioned from 3rd gen S&W's 22 years ago to CZ's. None of my handloads that worked in the S&W guns would chamber in the CZ.

Thank you all for your responses. I'm not sure what a plunk test is but I'll look that up. If I understand correctly, it sounds like I may have to adjust my overall cartridge length.

'Plunk Test'

Take a loaded round.

Remove barrel from pistol

Drop round into barrel from breech end

If it 'plunks', i.e. fully chambers without assistance, and you can freely turn it in the chamber, it passes the 'plunk test'.
If it doesn't fully chamber, or needs assistance to do so, it fails. Normally this is because the case has a bulge, or the OAL of the round is too long. Occasionally the bullet itself is out of spec, but this is unlikely.

Thanks for the explination of the Plunk Test.
Since my work is shut down I'll be loading today and doing a Plunk Test.

Thank you to everyone that told me about the Plunk Test. That was the problem. The flatnose and hollowpoints I loaded failed. I'll have to reduce the COL on those.
