Give Winchester 244 a try in place of 231
« on: March 22, 2020, 12:24:01 PM »
The good news is most dealers still have Winchester 244 and it seems to be much like W231 maybe a few more fps.  Load data isn't to hard to find for 9mm, 38 spl. and 45 auto and the avg. price is about $20 per lb.

From the Load Data and commentary I'm seeing, it would seem a good bit improved over W231

If you need powder in the middle of this panic, it might be a good one to look for. Not many people know about it, and the fan club isn't that big just yet.

I have been usingbit for about a year now and it produces some of the best numbers for SD I have seen. Not super great on velocity as it is fast but very consistant even on the lower powder charge spectrum all the way to max. Works great with lead bullets, not too smokey.

Well, I overreacted and bought a couple of 8lb jugs!  :o Should have it in a week or so I hope. I still have half a 8lb jug of Universal so I'm not desperate but this will show up just in time I would imagine! Looking at the burn rate its in-between Tightgoup and Universal so it should actually work pretty darn good. Looking at http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/ loads are very similar to tightgroup and Universal, it shows a little more pressure at lower loads but all appear closer at the upper end so shouldn't be any weird things happening as long as I do my part. It is kinda cool that this is a New Gen Powder also so we will see what that's all about I guess! Well just sit back and wait I guess, hopefully this whole thing doesn't revisit 2008/2009 and we come out of it as Spring really hits and Summer gets closer, but with that said loading what I load I'll have enough for at least 20K++ 9mm so I just might be OK!  ;)
