I know it's impossible, but....
« on: April 11, 2020, 10:38:34 PM »
I would love to see a new and updated 25 caliber rimfire. A good candidate would be the 270 nail gun blank, aka the 17 wsm. A bolt action or lever gun for rifles,  a revolver for a pistol. I think it would be great for larger varmints. A 50gr or 60gr bullet would be nice. Probably just wishful thinking. What do y'all think?

Not a subject that i have pondered. I am interested to hear other forum members thoughts on the matter.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

How about a reintroduction of the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum?  Bottlenecked round with a 30 grain bullet at 2300 fps.

I can only speak for myself, and from my own experience.

I wouldn't mind seeing it, and seeing what it could do.  I would be surprised if it supplanted my .17HMR fleet.  I have killed everything in my AO with .17HMR very effectively - mostly coyote and badger for larger varmints.  I generally shoot high volume gopher/ varmint when I shoot, so the probability of this new round making economical sense is pretty low for me.  Once a cartridge gets significantly more expensive than .17HMR, I am into where I can reload my .223 with a 40 gr vmax at around 3300 fps.  This is extremely effective load on all critters, and my go to when something is beyond the reach of the HMR.

I'm all for development, but for me, it's a solution to a problem I don't have.
Some will die in hot pursuit in fiery auto crashes.
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes.
Some will fall in love with life, and drink it from a fountain, that's pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain.

I was pondering a 50 gr hollow point at about 1500 fps. I have rifles to cover about any hunting situation.  I hate to download any of my centerfire  rifles. For me, its a hassle.Just thought it would be a niche that could be filled. Bigger hole with a 1/4 bore would hammer a yote pretty hard.

About a year ago Aguila (an ammo manufacturer out of Mexico) made there second run of 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum ammunition. There first run was about 10-12 years ago. It's good stuff. There's still some for sale if you look around. I've always thought the 25 Stevens rimfire made a lot of sense(I have zero experience with it) an update version would be fun.

While not a rimfire, the 327 Federal or 32 H&R Magnum can do all of the things wanted and can be found in revolvers and single shot handguns plus lever and single shot rifles. A very mild load can be found or loaded in a 32 Long or 32 S&W case.

Just thinking about a new rimfire. I know I can download or wildcat a center  fire cartridge. Have done it before. Just would like the no mess no fuss of a rimfire. And maybe a new rifle.
