P-10S OR with red dot at 100 yards today, video
« on: May 12, 2020, 04:24:59 PM »
Wasn't sure if the weather was going to hold long enough for me to get to the outdoor range, but I lucked out and was able to put 40 rounds downrange at 100 yards with my P-10S subcompact carry pistol.  I just put out the target, turned on a camcorder, went back to the bench, turned on the red dot, and started shooting.  Worked great!

I'm still having to adjust the holdovers for the much denser air here compared to the desert range but I'm getting there.  Worse today with some light rain while I was shooting.

I have a theory on the first shots hitting a little high.  I think it is because the barrel locks up just a little differently even from a slingshot slide release than it does on recoil on the second round.  I've seen this on several shorter barrel guns.  Perhaps the barrel has to be fitted just a hair looser to cycle reliably with the shorter barrel.  The barrel drop is the same as with a 4.5" full size gun, but the angle is steeper.  Anyway, that's my theory.  It certainly doesn't matter unless you are shooting out to 100 yards!  I may try a slightly stouter recoil spring and some very light slide lube, just to see if the lock up can be more consistent.

Plus, there is always the possibility that what is causing the sudden change in elevation at 100 yards is just me and my eyesight and grip inconsistency.  I am going to add Sugru to the grip after removing my temporary tennis racket grip tape also.  I should be able to get the shape and feel of the P-10S grip much closer to the P-10F and P-09, and that will definitely help me be more consistent with the little pistol.  I noticed today that I still cannot hold the dot as steady on the aim point as I can with the larger Sugru-ed guns.

If I throw out 2 of the 10 shots for each 10 shot group, the group sizes are really pretty good for a subcompact, I think.  Yes, the P-10F and P-09 100 yard groups are smaller, but I am getting more and more confident in the little subcompact the more I get to shoot it at some longer than normal distances.

Note that having a red dot on the little gun is a prerequisite, in my opinion, for getting good results at this distance.  I can't come close to doing this with iron sights.

Of course now I have to try the P-10S at 100 yards, but I'll shoot the steel. Bigger target. :D
Very impressive shooting as always, sir.
