Stock/Factory spring rates
« on: July 19, 2020, 08:03:13 PM »
I've looked and looked, but can't come up with anything definitive on the actual weight of the springs that various SP-01 variants come with.

For recoil springs I've seen several numbers ranging from 14 to 17lbs for the SP-01 and virtually nothing on the Shadow 1 or 2 but guesswork and an estimate of 20lbs on the "suppressor ready" SP-01s.

Same goes for the hammer springs, I've seen figures of 15-16, 18.6, and 20 for the factory units in SP-01s, Shadows, and Shadow 2s.

Some of the figures I get from Wolff, I don't even fully trust because they don't list the springs as purely for CZs, they include any of the clones that are compatible so who's really to know what their figures are from.

I guess the hammer springs don't really matter as much to me as I always go for a 12-13lb replacement unit anyway but the recoil springs have my interest because when I go down in weight on the hammer spring I like to compensate by 2-3lb increase on the recoil spring to keep the slide's rearward velocity similar to OEM.

Are there are any good resources on this subject that I'm just not finding here in FAQ/sticky form?

The 75/85 series of pistols including the SP-01 variants come with a 20lb main spring.

https://shop.cz-usa.com/main-spring-75-85-factory-0420030001.html

I believe the recoil springs are 16lb.

I asked CZUSA when I originally received my TSO as it came with extra springs and there wasn't any documentation included identify the weights.  Here is their response:

Quote
The TS Orange has a main spring of 20 lbs. and recoil spring of 16 lbs. installed. The TS comes with two extra main springs and recoil springs. The recoil springs are a 11 lbs. (short spring) and a 13 lbs. (long spring). Main springs are 13 lbs. (short spring) and a 16 lbs. (long spring).

Cheers,
Toby

I just checked the CZ-USA sight to try that same trick on recoil springs.  There is a part # for an SP-01 factory recoil soring with no weight listed (it is a flat wire spring) but there is a factory 9mm 75/85 spring listed with a weight of 16lbs given.

So 20/16 seems standard, similar to other DA/SA guns.

i asked CGW the factory spring weights of the p-01 and sp-01  pistols. hammers springs both 20 lbs,  recoil springs p-01 15 lb and sp-01 16 lb.

What is strange is that on their site they list 17lbs.
