Dan Wesson specialist

I picked up a Dan Wesson specialist in .45 today and wanted to know if there were any thing I need to know about break in or lube compared to my other 1911s. Thanks

I normally use a grease of some sort on the rails of my metal frame guns but it looks like they recommend fp-10 lubricant for the dan Wesson.

DW usually give pretty clear instructions in their manuals regarding break in and lubrication. I broke my DW's in like any other gun I own. Clean it lube it, oil on the rails as well and shoot the daylights out of it.

DW does not recommend grease on the rails.

Sounds good. I ordered some of the recommended oil.  I couldn’t find it anywhere local and doesn’t look like they supply any for break in anymore.

You can use any quality gun oil. Doesn't have to be What DW recommends just be sure it's lubed. I've used CLP and others.

However, for a tight 1911 I only recommend DW rail lube, FP-10 or Militec 1. There may be other good choices out there but these have been proven here.
Oils such as Rem oil, Hoppe's and the like, I only recommend for the surface and small moving parts.
Also, Beware of gun cleaners such as CLP that is not polymer safe. Though our Duty finish is not Polymer these "gun scrubbers" will damage the look of our Duty finish. Using oil as a cleaner is all you need. A little oil, nylon brush and elbow grease does wonders. Kroil, btw, is a great oil cleaner. It will even remove copper fouling from your barrel. Bench rest shooters have been using it for years.

Thanks! I ordered some of the fp-10 that way if something happens during break in it will have what they recommend on it.
