Trigger Pack stuck in trigger unit casing
« on: August 09, 2020, 09:31:49 PM »
Well I F'd this up.  So I just bought an EVO 3 S1.  From what it looks like, I don't have the welded trigger pack as there's no collar welded to the pack (see pic).  I'm trying to do a trigger job and the pack WILL NOT COME OUT.  Here's what I did and some pics of where I'm at.  Hoping someone out there can guide me here.

1.  Removed the lower assembly/trigger unit from the upper.
2.  Removed the safety.
3.  I stripped the trigger pack screw.  Used a 3mm allen like I was supposed to but that thing was not going anywhere.
4.  I bought a 1/8" drill bit and tried to drill out the screw head.  Drilled in and the screw head popped off like I expected.
5.  But then nothing.  No budge.

I've watched HB Industries and M*Carbo install videos endlessly to make sure there isn't something I'm overlooking, but I haven't seen anything.  The pack won't budge.  Is it possible that it's glued to the unit casing?  When I've watched people drill out their screw head, their trigger pack is able to pop right out.

Hoping one of you just went through this and has some pointers :)

Thanks in advance.  Take a peek at the carnage and the absence of a collar on screw.

Yes, I had to drill out the trigger pack screw on both of my Scorpions due to the extremely soft heads on the screws and the liberal use of locktite. I know you said the "safety was removed", I do not mean to insult, but is the entire safety shaft assembly is out of both sides of the lower assembly? If so and if it was mine, I would open the jaws of my vise or other elevated surface spaced wide enough to support both sides of the plastic lower assembly turned upside down. I would then insert a long punch through the hole in the trigger guard so it only made direct contact with the stub of the broken off screw and then TAP slowly and GENTLY with a small hammer. All you want to do is break the trigger housing loose, you should not have to DRIVE the trigger housing out of the lower.
Patience will prevent damage. If at first it doesn't work, STOP, walk away and come back to it later. Look everything over again and
re-evaluate.
If you have a good light spray oil or penetrating oil, spray it down inside (all the way around) between the plastic lower and the metal trigger cage/housing, let it set to give it time to seep inside. Sometimes the cages/housings are a tight fit in the lower.

Genius!  Worked like a charm.  Holy crap thank you.  I didn't have a punch that slim to accommodate the hole in the trigger guard, so I just flipped the drill bit around and used a rubber mallet.  Had some soft plastic to cushion the lower receiver in the vice.

Thank you thank you :)

I was thinking about trying to loosen that screw just to see if it would come loose just out of curiosity.

I believe I'll just leave it alone.

Glad your's worked out for you.

I feel like throwing a party!  Been messing around with this for a few nights but I'm a total noob.  Along with what Trooper894 said about the soft heads, I think my 3mm allen was in rough shape to begin with.

Just saw that CZ does have full trigger swaps /full lowers but they're like $250.  In case everything goes awry.

You are going to need a replacement trigger pack screw. HBI has a rehab kit that is very reasonable but I actually found the correct metric threaded buttonheaded screws at a very well stocked True Value Hardware Store in the "special" hardware section. I bought several of them to have on hand. If you can't find them and if HBI is out of stock I would be glad to send you a replacement.

Hey y'all.  Just wanted to say thanks again.  "Lower receiver" is back together with luxuriously shorter trigger pull.

Trooper894, thanks for the offer!  That is EXTREMELY GENEROUS of you and I just want to say thanks!!!  I was able to grab one from HB and it feels pretty snug.  So I think I'm good to go?

Duece McCracken - Happy Gilmore is probably the greatest movie ever made.  Respect.
