IMO, the Beretta 71s (22lr) and 81s (32acp) to the 92 are more of a pair than the 84/85 and 92 IMO. And I view the 71 and 81s primarily as trainers. 71s are quite small, while 81s more standard sized handguns. Both have minimal recoil to help reduce flinches, etc, that are counterproductive.
81s are also a great self defense gun for older folks with weak hands, etc, if that's the most gun they can shoot accurately. And more mass of 81s mean felt recoil is roughly the same between these two guns, at least IMO.
With blowback .380s, they often have more recoil than locked breech 9mms, especially if shooting lighter loads. Also, I'm committed to cz83 in this area anyways so don't see the need for the 84/85s in my collection.
And remember that 85s are single stacks vs 84s as double. Personally, I see zero need for an 85 vs other more compact options w/ same capacity. For range plinking and collection, the 84 makes sense.
