455 .22WMR Steel Magazine
« on: August 30, 2020, 05:07:13 AM »
Is there a reason not to use the older metal 452 magazines in 455 rifles? CZ USA parts suggested they would work, but are not the best idea, however they could offer no reason why.

Thanks!

The plastic and steel magazines in 22 L.R./17 MKII interchange between the 452-455-457 models. In the 22 Magnum/17HMR the 452 series rifle magazines are stand alone. And the 455-457 series rifle magazines interchange. The 452 Magnum magazines wont work in the 455-457. Before you buy any of the steel magnum magazines confirm this with a phone call to CZ-USA. It will save a bit of hassle in the long run.

No problems in my case so far. I've mainly worried about cracking them in the Montana cold but again not a problem. They feel smoother (the plastic) when feeding with my rifles. With the 452 rifles in 22 Magnum (2) and 17HMR (1) I took the plastic 10 round magazines and made 4 round magazines so they fit semi-flush like the 5 round 455 magazines do in the 455 magnum rifles. Easier hand carrying. I figure if any magazines are likely to fail it ought to be these but no problems so far.

A 455 in 17HMR on the left and a 452 in 22 Magnum on the right. Top photo shows the factory magazines. Middle photo the 455 is still factory but the right side 452 has it's 4 round plastic converted magazine. And the bottom photo shows the 455 factory magazine on the left and the converted 452 magazine on the right. You'll notice the magazine bodies are at different angles and the magazine release catch's (the little lip on the right side of the magazines about 1/3 of the way down the mag body) are different.

Thanks Dave. I did not believe the 5 rounders would be an issue. Once inserted, they are well protected. The 10 rounders in the cold? Possibly an issue. I like what you did making the fours. Nice job.

Great looking rifles!

Thanks again for the input.
