85B at home
« on: October 09, 2021, 05:04:44 PM »
It's Saturday, I stopped at a couple local shops and I stumbled on an '08 full sized CZ 85B. It's in great shape, came with the blue box, 2 16rd mags and a loader. The front sight has been replaced with a nice fiber optic sight. Right now it has the rubber Hogue grips with finger grooves. I'm pretty sure I'll replace those eventually.
This is about the only 85 I've seen for sale around here. 2 of the salesmen came over while I was doing the paperwork and said, "I didn't know we had one of those in the shop". I'm glad I found it before they did.
I don't have any picture hosting account but you all know what they look like.

I really like those.  I'm right handed, but so what.  I like the idea of easily operating the pistol with either hand.  I even like the way they look.

My first metal framed CZ was an old Pre B CZ85.  Replaced the springs and barrel (pitted pretty bad on the inside) and had it refinished.

Like it well enough I bought a CZ75 Compact to convert it to CZ85 configuration/controls.

Then bought a CZ75B .40 and converted it, too.  Well, it came with ambidextrous safeties but I did the work to add the CZ85 slide release levers and spur hammer to make it more like the Pre B gun I bought first.

And they have stopped making the CZ85s so you should hang on to it, they won't get easier to find.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Nice find eagle-eye. Gratz on the 85B. May it run flawlessly.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thanks guys. The previous owner has had it since 2012(I found the store's sales receipt under the foam in the box) and they really oiled and greased up the insides. So much so that the oil was collecting dirt and debris around the barrel and recoil spring. I cleaned it up. It doesn't really look like it's been shot much, there's very little wear.

When I bought my 85 combat it also had the the rubber Hogue grips, that was the first thing I removed, shadow 2 grips fit the cz85 and give you a better grip, I also used two tiny pieces of skateboard tape to get more grip.

This is how mine is at the moment
cz85 combat with grips from m-arms, thick blue ones, two pieces of skateboard tape for extra grip, replaced the plastic thing were the returnspring sits on with a stainless custom one, the mag is one of a shadow2, front sight is a custom one with green fiber
in competition Service Pistol I have had scores of 224 out of max 240 so the grip is good.

I don't know all that much about the CZ 75/85 pistols. But my 85 is a transitional if what I've read is correct. It looks a lot like Mark-combat's with the squared trigger guard and no firing pin safety. But has fixed sights and Lok grips. It's a pre CZ import by Action Arm in the early 1990's. I always liked the CZ 75/85's but you don't just add a left handed safety to the 75's so wasn't a big follower. Being a lefty this sort of took the 75's out of the running.

I think the cz85 has fixed sights, the cz85combat has adjustable ones and the combat has no firing pin block so that makes it faster and more crisp trigger pull

If you can find a CZ75B SA in 9MM or .40 S&W or a CZ75B in .40 S&W they will have the ambidextrous safeties.

My 85 doesn't have the COMBAT slide marking which explains the fixed sights. And being a 1994 made pre B series is lacking the firing pin safety. Aside from the model 85 I also have a bright stainless 75B in 9mm with the ambi safety. I bought this a couple of three years ago. I've always liked the 75/85 pistols but finding one with the ambi safety locally wasn't common.
