stupid ? re 452 ammo
« on: September 12, 2020, 04:56:57 PM »
I was taught that I must use standard velocity in my CZ-452 model 02045

Dutifully I've been using CCI standards all these years...
HOWEVER, due to the ammo shortage, and my ability to gain access to a bunch of CCI Minimags, 1235fps..I am wondring if it is OK to use those

BTW, I usually use 150 rds per session, per week, if that matters

Any advice appreciated,

If I only shot 150 rounds of season I would use the best Eley. RWS ect

most use standard velocity because the potential for accuracy is higher. Your 452 isn't going to be harmed by CCI Minimags (or other high velocity ammo).

Don't use the "super colibri" or any of the "quiet loading" sub-sonics unless you enjoy pounding stuck bullets out of your barrel.

Welcome Aboard !

I agree. If I remember correctly, best accuracy is 40gr around 1080fps. These are typically all-lead RN with a waxy finish.

Your Hollow Points and Mini-Mags are typically going to have a copper wash to cut down on the barrel leading. These typically have an extra 50-100 fps punch for hunting, but are not nearly as accurate. You can forget anything about "one hole accuracy" when using such ammo. Groups of 2-3" are common, versus 5 holes touching. But other than mandating additional cleaning, mechanically speaking (chamber pressure, barrel wear, head spacing, etc), I think you're OK to shoot them up as long as you avoid a steady diet.

All 22lr ammo is suitable, except for Colibri's, and Stingers. One due to low velocity, the other due to being slightly longer.

I've had good luck with SK Std+, and Eley target. I have some Eley Contact to try out.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

My understanding is that in order to season a new .22 barrel one needed to use lead bullets in standard velocity only for the 1st 500 rounds at least. After that you were good. If you stripped a barrel, you would have to season again using rhe same process. I've used this process with my 455 and am very pleased with the accuracy.
