Fair Price ? 97B
« on: September 26, 2020, 01:34:18 AM »
I think I know the answer guys but either looking for encouragement or discouragement, LOL ! A local guy has a 97B up for sale & through a mutual friend he contacted me about it. The guy has had it a couple years I believe and maybe it has 1000 rds through it but I doubt it. He is not a reloader so only factory ammo has been run through it so not worried about it being hurt or anything. Anyways its a 97B bought new then sent to CGW for the defensive carry package, it has the reach reduction kit type 2,EZ D sights & 4 mags. All the original grips/box/paperwork plus a set of G10 orange grips. Also comes with a quality belt holster, I have no ideal what it is or what the quality is but this is a older guy & a retired NY State Trooper so its probably a decent holster. Anyways I was told he wants $1000 bucks for it, so private sale, no tax or gun shop pricing ! Probably have to pay for a transfer ($40) but other than that pretty straight forward. Seems fair, of course we always want "that" killer deal but when I meet him I mite try and beat him up a little, LOL ! What do you guys say/think. Thanks for any input/thoughts !

1 - A thousand rounds should not be an issue with the 97.

2 - Doesn't sound like CGW performed their E-Convesion work on the pistol, nor the barrel crowning.

3 - The condition of the pistol will be a key factor regarding a fair price.

I would guess he has about $1,100 invested. It's seems to have had a lot of use and it's an older model, not that being older means it is not a fine pistol.

IMO, a fair price would be $800.

All depends on what you want, but I bought my NIB 97B about 3 months ago for $713 out the door... They're still available for roughly that price...

I agree, if it even has 1K through it I would be surprised. For me & my way of thinking a 1000 rds is nothing, I always keep track on all my guns and I don't feel I have even shot it "enough" if I don't have at least 1K through any of my guns. Yes CGW did do the work and there is no E-conversion, which I know is a good feature but being a CZ I'm sure its more than accurate, I'm not a bullseye shooter, LOL I'm not sure what he paid for the gun but yea he has had it at least a year if not longer, so prices a year or more ago were more than fair I'm sure. I looked up the work @ CGW and its a tad over $400 bucks worth for what he had done & those prices mite have been even less a year or more ago. He does have all the CGW paperwork also so if I get it and can check it all. There are 2 extra mags so that's another $70 give or take a few bucks.
Well I'll keep you guys posted, I know he is out shooting it today @ a local IDPA match so I'll try and hit him up or talk with him later today or tomorrow sometime. Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated !
Also as much as I have "wanted" one of these guns & I do have a 1911 so I have tons of 45 supplies I just never shoot 45,its actually been a year or more ! So being a heavy 9mm guy I would switch over and shoot 45 for awhile and then just go back to my 9mms and then it would sit in the safe like my 1911 and 90% of all my pistols, LOL I shoot my 07 about 99% of the time !! Oh boy, money well spent or $$$ tossed down a hole, LOL

you can price it just like you did.  (old gun price) Gun + extras + work and go from there.

I would not touch the gun unless it was something i wanted and the work was what i wanted.

if you want to look at how much to pay (now), then you can look at the cost of the gun + extras + work NOW and see what the difference is and then go from there.

but i would be asking myself if the work is want i want.  If not, id just get an OTS gun and use the savings on other things like ammo, mags and whatever else you may want.

Yes this make sense ! Really the work that is on it is close to what I would have done,,I would of probably gone with the whole package as that is what is done on all my other CZs that I have had work done on. I will run into him tomorrow (Sunday) @ the range and see what he says. I guess as much as I "think" I want it I for sure do not need it,LOL ! Maybe I'll sway towards it but the longer I think about it the more I know I can live without it. He is asking $1000,and like stated, that's not far off from buying a new one and getting done what I want, yea 2 extra mags and a holster I probably wouldn't like anyways so yea it is kinda high $$ ! I'll offer $800 & if he takes it then I would get it,if not then I know it will be in a local gun shop and will be on GB in a week for probably $1200 !!!  :o Thanks guys again for the thoughts & info .  :) I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Late to the party but I can tell you one thing for certain - you will want to keep shooting it! It's more fun than a 1911! :D

Also I waited for the right deal and paid $650 for my new 97B on gunbroker earlier this year.
