First time using a optic need some help
« on: October 12, 2020, 11:25:43 AM »
At the risk of sounding like a rookie it's because I am at least with optics. I might just be missing the whole concept here. I purchased a CZ Scorpion carbine a few weeks back and they gave me a good deal on a Sig MSR green dot at the same time to go with it. Had the Scorpion out last week and got the iron sights dialed in just fine but never mounted the optic. So a few days later I decided to mount the optic and get it lined up to co witness with the iron sights on the Scorpion.  Now when I set up the zero on the iron sights I did so with the rifle supported and my cheek on the stock.

Now with the optic mounted and the rifle supported my cheek on the stock the green dot is in the lower left corner and no amount of adjustment will move it from there.  I have to lift my head off the stock and move it way back off the stock to get the dot out of that bottom left corner. Should I not be looking through the aperture to get the dot lined up with the front post?  I'm probably missing something painfully obvious here so excuse me in advance for my total lack of optic knowledge and thanks for any replies.  :-[

I'm no expert on red (or green) dots either, but you don't line the dot up with the front post- when set up properly the dot will be at the point the bullet hits.  You don't use a combination of dot and sights, it's either-or.

Now that I've attempted an answer, the experts can tell you where I'm wrong!

Thanks for the response. I'm probably not explaining myself very well. There are video's showing that once your iron sights are zeroed you need to adjust the dot to the top of the front post by looking through the optic and making elevation and windage adjustments on the optic until it sits on top of the front post. So the dot and front post co-witness properly.

The problem I'm having is when I shoulder the weapon and look through the optic the dot is pinned to the lower left corner and will not move from there regardless of the amount of adjustment. I have to move the gun well off my shoulder to get the dot anywhere near the center of the optic. Maybe the optic is bad??

The dot should move whenever you adjust the elevation or windage. Call Sig cS and let them know about your problem.

Their optics department is located in Oregon so make sure you call that number.

Sounds like a defective optic. As George said, I'd start with a call to Sig CS.

Personally, I co-witness dots on my carbines. I don't co-witness dots on my pistols (handguns). But like many things, you'll find a spectrum of opinions.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I've been informed the Sig Romeo MSR comes with the wrong mount to use on a Scorpion carbine. I need to either go with a different optic or find a low mount for the Sig MSR.

Yep. A friend of mine came across the same issue when comparing his MPX to his Scorpion. BTW... MPX came out on top according to him.

You will need the right height Mount to be able to co-witness or lower third co-witness your optic
