Those videos are a good reminder that there has been a fair bit of evolution (and I would argue improvements) to a design that many people tend to think is still the exact same design it was 100 years ago. And neither of those vids even touch on the current crop of truly "modern" 1911s being produced by Nightwind, Wilson Combat, Triarc, Sig and others. The most traditional of semi-autos continues to evolve and be updated, and I say bring it!

Great videos, good history. But still no explanation for A2 meaning.
My guess is that every manufacturer uses its own nomenclature now, since there is no more military or civilian specs for 1911.

The A1 in the military version of the 1911 refers to upgrades to changes to the trigger length, grip safety tang, scallops on the frame and a few other changes made early on to supposedly improve the shortcomings of some shooters. The A2 in Dan Wesson designation as they state refers to their vision of what a modern military grade 1911 would be like. The A2 in the Rock Island designation as I understand it refers to the guns double stack magazine.

sort of like ammo listed as "+P" (for anything other than the 4 with a SAAMI +P spec) or any "+P+", there is no universal, absolute meaning to "1911A2".

After staring at them for way too long, I decided to take the plunge on a TCP the other day. Can't wait!

Holster options for the TCP, given that it has a 4" barrel and a rail, seem pretty slim. I think I'll likely go with my old standby, Simply Rugged.

Warbird leather made a holster for my Specialist Commander that also fits my TCP perfectly- recommend contacting him.
