We have bald eagles around here. See them sometimes around (flying over) the house but where 15 miles or so from the water/river.
At work we where right on the river (James River, south of Richmond, VA.) The eagles would "fish" in a pond just outside the fence. Sometimes you'd see them cruising over, drop down, grab a fish and fly away with it. Had a pair nesting in a big tree near the railroad spur that delivered some of our raw materials to the plant site. Some visitors from England heard about the nest and decided to walk down the track to see the eagles up close and maybe get some pictures. Momma eagle didn't take kindly to someone walking down the tracks that close and came out of the nest and ran them back down the tracks to the road.
Another time, a guy coming in to work saw an eagle fly up off the ground near the edge of the woods and fly towards the road with a snake hanging from it's claws. Nice weather, so he had his truck window down and his bent arm sticking out. As they got closer he realized the eagle would fly over him and thought that was kind of cool - till the eagle dropped the snake and it came down across his arm. He almost wrecked his truck. He said if anyone had been driving out when he was driving in he'd have hit them.
