I'm happy I had a powder check die
« on: November 15, 2020, 10:29:37 PM »
I loaded about 1500 9mm this afternoon on my Dillon xl750 and had 10 cases rejected by my powder check die for being over charged.  After I finished loading and was cleaning up I checked the powder charge in the rejected cases and found they were right on the money. That is when I noticed that all the rejects were the same head stamp Xtreme I measured inside the cases from the web to the case mouth and found them all to have much less volume than my Federal or Blazer brass. I checked my loaded rounds as I boxed them and none of the Xtreme brass made it past the power check die.

That experience gives you confidence that your setup is working as it should. Good catch.

were these stepped cases or did they look normal on the inside?
Good on you and thanks for sharing!

The cases are not stepped but have a very thick base that reduces the their volume and will increase pressure.
