CZ Custom Combat trigger in Witness
« on: December 26, 2020, 04:04:26 AM »
Hi,

I just finished after much delay (a combination of laziness, procrastination, and cheap excuses of a busy life) the trigger job on a Witness.
I do not remember the exact model, but it is a large frame with a wonder-finish, 4.5" barrel, DA/SA. The front sight is fixed, part of the slide. The rear sight is only drift-adjustable.

I did absolutely minimal polishing, only the trigger bar guide body. Yeah, I am lame. ;)
On the trigger springs, nothing special to report, just a kit.

Now for the trigger, I was able to find a CZ Custom Combat trigger, for a bit cheaper.
It is the model drilled and tapped for over travel screw, but it did not come with a screw. I will get one locally later.

As it has a much better shape, I decided to install it in the Witness.

The things were going according to plan, up to the moment the plan fell apart.
It turned out the diameter of the trigger pins on the Witness is bigger.
That is true both for the shorter one holding the trigger to the trigger bar, as well as the long one, which holds the TRS and the trigger to the frame.

Well, after a bit of panic, I found an unused Cajun short trigger pin and I cannibalized the floating trigger pin from another kit I have to install one of these days. Months. Years...
With the two pins with the right diameter, I was able to install the trigger and everything seems to be working.

However, I am wondering if it will work long term.
Both pins have a narrower diameter than some of the holes they went in:
- The short is narrower than the hole on the trigger bar.
- The floating one is narrower than the slide.

Has anyone does something like that before?
I doubt I am the first one to come with this idea.

If it works, what about the same offering from Cajun?
That trigger seems even more tempting because it has two holes drilled and tapped.
That allows limiting how far the trigger returns forward to shorten the DA a bit, and how far the trigger goes back, to eliminate the unnecessary overtravel after the break.

Thank you

I think you will have problems because of the slop. The trigger may move side to side a bit.

You could drill the trigger pin hole in the cajun trigger larger to fit the the Witness trigger pins and the same with where the trigger pins to the trigger bar. Should be easy enough to find the size you need to drill by looking on the web.

I used the canik trigger pin that cajun offers in my Witness limited and it went in really easy.

just my 2 cents.
