CZ75 compact rear sight removal and finish heat tolerance
« on: June 13, 2021, 10:11:26 AM »
I have a new Compact with fixed sights and wish to install an adjustable rear sight. I have borrowed a Real Avid Master sight pusher from my local gun shop but so far can’t move the existing sight. The lgs owner suggests that it has been glued with loktite and needs to be be heated. From what I read, a temperature of 250C /500f will be necessary to do this. My concern is that such heat will damage the finish. Does anyone have experience with this method? Thanks.

Pistol finish will survive it.
In your case - heat up the sight only, nothing else. So do not use heat gun (and heat up everything), just go with soldering gun (heat up the sight).

Be sure there is no set screw holding the sight in place. If so loosen it. If not mount the slide in a soft jaw vise and drive the sight out from the ejection port side to the left with a brass drift punch and hammer. I purchased the real avid master sight pusher some months back and what I think of it I cannot post here. Take it back to the gunsmith and allow him to resume using it as a paperweight. Pure waste of money, garbage.

I have not used the Real Avid, but I've removed (and replaced) a number of CZ rear sights with the NCStar sight  pusher. The NCStar isn't premium (by nearly any definition) but it always worked for me.

Thanks for the advice. We tried a heavy vice and a large hammer but it still would not move. Back in the Real Avid and it took two of us to make it go, one to hold the pusher and the other to turn the handle. Getting the new sight in was almost as hard.I hope it works cuz it’s not coming out.

Tools you need: 3 pound hammer, half inch brass punch, big-ass vice

put some penetrating oil over night before. remove screw if there is one.
wrap slide with piece of thick leather scrap. leather is there so I dont do any damage from bad hit or vice.
heat rear sight only, not too much.

remove right to left. Left to right for in.

first hit with hammer, do it like a man, not little girl.

I this case, after 2 days of fighting with the problem,  common sense seems to be more important than any tools.
Sights replacement made by professional gunsmith will cost you $20 - $40...  ;)

Eheheh, i have said this a few times while tinkering with CZs. Glad that you got it in.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Thanks again. As a follow up: I removed the firing pin and block so as to avoid damage if high heat was applied. On reassembly, the block remains slightly recessed, not flush. It seems the firing pin is only partly held in place. Many attempts following YouTube directions have not helped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The firing pin block is slightly recessed in the slide.  I'm not sure what you mean by partially held in place?  Does the firing pin sit in the slide just protruding out the rear?  Does it function at all?  You have to insert the firing pin with the lock channel facing up.  That lock channel interfaces with the block and prevents pin movement until the block is depressed.

Here is a series of video's I made showcasing my Rami and the first is the firing pin install.  You can see in the video the block isn't flush, it sits slightly below flush.

Thanks, Toby, great videos.  It seems to work OK so I suspect it's my memory that's at fault. (not the first time) I thought the block had originally been flush.
