Disconnector not engaging sear sufficiently
« on: May 29, 2021, 09:58:19 PM »
Hey all, got a quick "what the hell am I doing wrong" question.

While assembling my VZ-58 and function testing the trigger, I found that the disconnector, while engaging the sear, wasn't engaging it sufficiently to allow the striker to pass over the sear and move forward to engage the firing pin.

Before pulling the trigger
After pulling the trigger

As you can see the leaf spring is depressed and the sear dips down after the trigger is pulled, but the striker still can't make it over the lip of the sear to move forwards.

For reference, I am using the Czechpoint sear.

What am I missing/doing incorrectly?

Judging by post history, you're doing your own build, correct? If that's a AWO receiver, I had the same problem on initial parts assembly. The problem doesn't lie in the sear or the trigger mechanism. The problem lies in the cutout for the trigger. It's a hair too small and needs to be widened out. You'll notice that the trigger is very squared off (when looking at circumference) and the receiver trigger hole is quite rounded on it's corners. This causes the trigger to not be able to be pulled back far enough to leverage the sear out of the way of the linear hammer. At least, this is what I glean from you're limited pictures. Can you take a picture of the side profile of the trigger installed? What I mean is, take a picture of the whole side of the receiver so I can see where the trigger is positioned while installed. Thanks.

Hi, yes I am doing my own build. It's an ORF receiver though, not AWO, but I have aluma hyde'd it which may be causing that slightly too-tightness you were talking about.

Is this the angle you wanted?

Thank you in advance for the help, I really do appreciate it.

Yes. It looks like it's sitting how it should be when trigger isn't pulled. Of course, it's hard to determine without having my hands on it and looking at it. Try removing your trigger guard again, and when you pull the trigger, try to see if the back of the trigger is contacting the receiver in a spot that impedes its rearward travel.

I took some pictures of the pulled trigger, it looks like the shelf is hitting the receiver like it should.

Hmmm. Hard to say then. I know that was my problem. The only other thing I can think is if the sear or disconnector is worn to a point where it's not pulling it enough.

I don't think that's it just because it's a brand new sear. Thanks for looking at it though. It rotates freely and it can rotate enough to allow the striker to move forward, it just doesn't want to.

I've contacted Czechpoint in hopes of an answer, I'll post here if they provide help. Otherwise if anyone here has answers please let me know.

Welp, it worked. Thanks. Ended up having to take off the whole shelf, but it works. Ordered a replacement in case this causes issues down the line, but I can't imagine it will.

Look at your disconnector/sear interface -- that's where the issue lies, not the trigger.  You can add material via welding, etc, to the front edge of your disconnector.  ForcedMarch in stickies might still be offering his trigger service too to fix it for you.

Also, bend down or cutoff that second sear spring.  Striker could be hanging up on that too -- can't tell from pics.
