Cz Bren 556 11 vs 14 vs 16
« on: June 15, 2021, 10:12:16 AM »
Hello,

Posted this on Reddit but wanted to see if I can get some more opinions.

I love CZ and really want to get a Bren 2. Since I have heard of issues with the 7.62x39 variant I would like to get the 556 (Although so would like a 7.62x39 if they didn’t have issues). Just looking for reccomendations on what would be the most recommended Bren.

Whatever Bren I get I would like to suppress it (I have a dead air sandman s in jail but am not married to just having that). I know HBI has a gas service for the 11 and 14 inch models to hopefully reduce gas to the face, but not sure if this really helps or not. I also wouldn’t mind SBRing if I got the 11, the 14 I’m not sure if it would be worth SBRing or not. My other concern is about velocity, I have shoot mostly 55 and 62gr because it’s available to me, just worried that if I went smaller barrel lengths the drop in velocity would make it worth having a smaller barrel to shoot (mostly for the 11 inch, but what ammo do you guys run in your Brens?). Mostly looking for others opinions on what they like the best, if I really like the Bren I may end up getting a second one (If they release the 762x51 Bren definitely a third) I do not know anyone who has one and rarely see them in stores near me, so any information is really helpful.

Thanks for all the help!

either bren would be fine IMO. 11 inch if running a can (just for a smaller package). there are a ton of you tube videos on velocity and barrel length. IMO any barrel length above 10.5 for a 556 but for a compact truck type gun an 8 or 9 inch barrel especially inside of 100 yards is making for an early day for the intended target.

Hey man thanks for the reply, just one of those things that’s hard to decide haha, really between the 11 and 14 now but you are certainly right about it being better for a can of it’s smaller. It’s just when you spend 1600-1700 for the gun you want to make sure it’s right haha. Thanks

I'm only going to share my opinion because of the situation im in. I have a 9" x39 model and quit frankly would rather not SBR it. So I either wanna get rid of mine because I don't see CZ importing any barrels or parts any time soon or get a 14" model so I could pin and weld a muzzle device on it. If you hate the look of the 16" model then go 14" other wise if you do like the 16" model then Id get that as you dont have to spend money on getting a stock or worrying about getting the gas selector drilled for a suppressor setting as I believe the 16" carbine comes with a suppressor setting from the factory (I think). Either way if you dont wanna deal with an SBR or pistol brace shenanigans then I say 16" model as it would be cheaper in the long run. If you dont care about SBR or pistol brace issue then I'd say 11" model.

i have a 14 inch 556 pin and welded. that would be my suggested compromise to avoid any ATF crap. especially with a can. the 16 has a different barrel profile and gas system length. but 11 or 9 if your gonna have to stamp it. guess it depends on what your needs are with a can. can't really go wrong. lol

I have the 11 incher and it is a very accurate and reliable firearm.  8) If you are going to put a 'can on it, might as well go the whole nine yards and SBR.

I got carbine, but just because I am in stupid NJ state and it should be 16" or Other Firearm which don't exist yet. But I am fine, as long as I could shot it and enjoy my Bren 2.

If so, does she shoot anywhere as soflty as the original?

I have a 16” 805. It is really awesome. I wouldn’t mind an 11”
