P07 decocker to safety improves DA trigger?
« on: August 06, 2021, 08:50:14 AM »
I recently switch out my P07’s decocker for the safety. The DA trigger seems to have a little less resistance now. I wish I had measured the DA trigger pull with the decocker but I wasn’t expecting any benefits. Am I imaging things or have other members had similar experiences.

I've switched my P07 from decocker to safety twice. Once, before polishing, and again afterward. Before polishing, the trigger on my P07 was terrible and I almost left it with the FFL for return, but figured it might "break in" after use. Converting it to safety operation made no difference at all, so I returned it to it's original state.
After the first 500 rounds and some thorough cleanings, some of the "crunchies" disappeared, but it was still not much fun to shoot. With the technical information and encouragement I found in this forum, I performed a complete polishing of the pistols internals. and have wound up with a very nice shooting P07.
Remembering that others claimed an improvement by converting to safety, I tried it again, but still did not see enough change to offset my preference for the decocker.
Over 5000 rounds later, I've got a pistol that's fun to shoot, and extremely reliable in it's original configuration. My Wife's P07 (ODG) was an absolutely sweet shooter right out of box, and has just gotten smoother after 3000+ rounds. She tried my pistol in both configurations, and agreed that there was no significant difference.
All that being said, I acknowledge that every pistol off an assembly line is a unique machine !!!

Just converted mine to Decocker and can not tell the difference.  Has maybe 3,000 rounds through the firearm.  The first thing I did with this pistol is to dry fire it 1,000 times in DA mode.  Then I changed springs and did some polishing.

Hope this helps.

The decocker should make no difference at all in trigger pull on the P-07/09. If it does then there's a problem with the decocker shaft rubbing the sear. CGW identified the issue some years ago and there's an old thread regarding that in here somewhere. Basically you'll be able too see the shaft make slight contact with the sear and you just lightly remove some metal from the decocker shaft till there's no more contact in that area.

I think this might be it.

Yep that definitely covers it but there was a thread from David at CGW about it even before that one. There's good info in that thread. All one needs to know to tune up the P-07/09.
