No double action
« on: September 21, 2021, 12:45:08 AM »
First post here, I have a CZ 97b, made in 2015, I just bought it at a gun show. There is NO double action, but does have single action mode. Pulling the trigger with hammer down pulls the hammer all the way back, but will not fall. There is what I believe a new rear sight that sort of overhangs the rear of the slide. It has aluminum grips on it instead of wood, so I'm thinking maybe some work was done to it. The sku no. is 01411. Any ideas, I really do not want to send it to the Mothership. Thank you in advance for any ideas, Bob

Welcome the the forums.

Edit: Check if your CZ has an over travel set screw located in the face of the Trigger. If so, this set screw can be adjusted in too far. This can limit the Triggers travel to less than is required to complete the Double Action pull.

If the cause is not an over travel set screw, i would check the Trigger Bar Spring tension and position. You can access the TBS by removing the grips of the pistol. The ends of the TBS legs on the interior of each side of the frame, should be positioned in the grooves of the Trigger Bar. They should be set to apply up tension to the Trigger Bar.

If the TBS is not providing consistent up tension, a CZ 75 variant pistol can loose its Double Action operation.

Here is a reference picture.

Checked both TBSpring ends, look just like your photo. The trigger is chrome, not black. Is there a way by changing out the trigger and hammer to make the gun just single action? Maybe that by changing out parts it has become a SA only gun for bullseye shooting? When the hammer is down and the trigger is pulled, the hammer goes all the way back, no amount of pull will make the hammer fall, just like a trigger stop. When slowly releasing the trigger the hammer will catch in the half cock notch. by pulling the trigger back at this point it comes to full cock but won't drop. Thank you for taking time to help me on this.

If the gun had been converted to SA only the DA feature would no longer exist at all and pulling the trigger with the hammer down would result in no movement. Even though your gun looks the same as the reference pic TOK posted the spring could still be improperly adjusted. Try pulling up on the trigger bar while pulling the trigger and see how it behaves. If the hammer falls in DA there's not enough upward tension on the spring. If it's the same you may need to give CZ, CGW or CZ Custom a call. Obviously the gun is used being a 2015 manufacture so there's no warranty but one of them can get you up and running at that point.

Thank you for all the info. I got it to run in DA, somewhat. The TBS was putting too much up force on the trigger bar. Bending it down some resulted in no DA. By trial and error I got it to run, somewhat. The trigger has a lot of play, side to side so when I use my left hand it works great, right hand , not so much. I will call CZ and order a new trigger, roll pin, TBS, and the mag spring screw, that should take care of the problem. Thanks again or your effort to help, Bob.

Be careful of the screw that holds the tbs and mag catch spring in place. If you've not done one before that screw is usually staked in place.

Or consider going to Cajun Gun Works or CZ Custom.  One advantage is the floating trigger pin they offer plus a lot of other fun stuff!
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Still no d/a for 97b
« Reply #9 on: November 10, 2021, 03:11:00 PM »
I've been trying to figure out why I have only spotty D/a on my 97b. Thanks for all of the info. The trigger has a lot of side play in it. The trigger must have an egg shaped hole where the trigger pin goes through the frame or the pin is broke. I have called all the usual places to find a trigger for the 97b, NO LUCK. I believe it is not as easy to replace as a 75b. The 75b you could pull up the trigger bar and replace the trigger itself without too much trouble. On the 97b it is a lot more to it. Is there a youtube site for the r/r on the trigger for the 97b? Any ideas for getting parts? CZ does not have these parts right now, sign of the times I guess, thanks for any additional help/ideas.

Trigger is interchangeable with other 75 series pistols. Disassembly is the same as well.

^^This^^.

If you want the Trigger that the CZ97B comes factory with, CGW offers one. If you plan on replacing the factory Trigger Pin, you may want to consider a Floating Trigger Pin for replacement.
