P09 and p07 safety and decock levers. I HAVE AN IDEA
« on: December 16, 2021, 05:58:51 PM »
I switched my p09 from decock to safety . This deletes the spring. I'm the kind of person that wants as few parts as possible in my guns. So I got to thinking just to see how my p09 would function with both levers taken out. There would be a small hole in each side but as far as I know it should function since the trigger bar presses down against the right lever and the ejector presses up against the left lever.   Any thoughts ?

Why would you do this? What’s the advantage of not having the levers?

Suppose you need to suspend firing for some unforeseen reason or in a bad situation and make the gun safe as quickly as possible? With no decocker to drop the hammer and no manual safety to engage you may be forced to manually lower the hammer in a high stress situation and that could have dangerous consequences. I'm all for upgrades but removing such an important feature is courting disaster.  While there have been cases where the levers have been an issue it certainly is not the norm.

Well I got to looking and it seems that these levers are necessary to hold the ejector in place. Anyways , if it had worked , Id have a more slim fit to it in the rear without the levers. Its not a carry gun. So the wild scenario of "what if" don't apply to this one.

The holes will allow dirt and debris inside right where you don't want it.  My opinion, but think you are asking for trouble, not just voiding any liability protection.  Not to mention it would be questioned if you ever had to use it for self defense.

Just my opinion.

Allow dirt and debris,  what are you rolling around in the field in the mud with your gun. Actually maybe it's not a bad idea find out how durable your pistol is, an unforeseen circumstances. Well, anyway, put the levers back in , stupid idea. JMHO

My P-07 is my carry pistol.  It is amazing how much dirt and thread get attached to my pistol, even in the holster.  Maybe you just live a cleaner life than I do.  As to the position of the holes we are talking about is within an inch of the hammer, sear, disconnect and ejector assemblies, not where I would want anything to get into the action and gum up my pistol, when I need it most.

You may not use your pistol in this fashion and as a range toy jams are acceptable.  Have a Tactical Sport that will jam every 50 rounds or so.  In that case I am either getting practice clearing a jam, or I get to throw that run out.  Either way no big deal.  Defensive pistol not so forgiving on the reliability front. 100% is the only acceptable answer.

Best Wishes and Happy Holidays to all.
